Best cheap monitors

What are the best cheap monitors I can get? I'm in just in a studio apartment at the moment and it's safe to assume the acoustics aren't all that.

I don't want to be hearing no people posting comments telling me to 'save my money'. We aren't all in good jobs. It's going to be one hell of a long time before I can afford expensive monitors because i'm studying for a degree and I only have a part-time job that doesn't pay much to pay for food and bills. I need to make beats damnit! Arent the acoustics one of the factors in monitors sounding good anyway?

I'm not a serious beatmaker as well. Just make beats as a hobby at the moment.

On a budget?

Use your existing home stereo together with a pair of decent headphones.

In essence, use what you already have for listening to music.

Yeah, I'm having a similar issue. My girl lives way the hell across town and she lives in a small apartment of just three rooms. Travelling to her place and back and then to my job really gives me no time to make beats. So I made a mini studio station at her house, inside her walk-in closet. The speakers I use are bookshelf Sony speakers that I bought for $40 on ebay. Very decent response and the speakers are 5'' 2way and a 2'' for highs. I made the Swamp Water Plague EP in that mini set up.

Then monitors won't help you, and bad monitors will make it worse.

Use what you got / what you are using now. Headphones will make the bad acoustics of your room not matter.

I don't think that being broke enough to only buy sh!t is a good excuse...if it's really so bad that you can't save up, then just don't buy any, and get by with whatever you can find. Thrift store, resale shops, find the absolute cheapest or free thing you can. Surely you know someone with a stereo sitting in a garage/basement.

But looking to buy 'cheap' monitors then saying you absolutely refuse to spend decent money on them is a waste, when you can get by just as good with much less.

I think it depends how cheap we're talking. There are decent budget monitors which do a better job than a home stereo, even with not so good room acoustics. Even if they colour the sound a bit, a hi-fi system colours it a lot more.

My original opinion still stands though...if money is that tight just get by with whatever and don't buy into the marketing.

The obvious candidates would be yamaha hs series or krk rockit series...If it's just a hobby like he said it may not be justified to spend too much anyway.

Well... I just copped a new set of 2031a's by behringer a few week ago for about $300 including shipping. I can say the best advice, no matter what you buy, is LEARN YOUR MONITORS! Everything you listen on colors sound in its own way. Just adjust accordingly!
