MPC 4k or 2.5k?

Well??

I need a new MPC, but cant afford both. What are the major differences(besides better build and bigger screen) and how will it tie into the other equipment listed: MPC 2000xl, MPC 2k classic, ASR-88, Korg M1, Yamaha CVP5, Logic 9, Sony Acid/soundforge/vegas

Im thinking of a reason to sell the 2kclassic haha. I wanna bring my 2kxl back home, its at the lab.
Also, my first MPC was a 1000 I had before I joined the forums, so your statement is incorrect.
But yes, gear lust is an illness.

The 2k classic is in need of repair. But it has a mint condition screen I raped offa dps-12. Anyway, I wanna get it repaired and then sell it. r sell it as is, but I dont think anyones gonna pay 300 bucks for a broken MP, even if it does have a new screen.

Yes, I love my ASR. Tried to sell it cause I was hurtin for cash, but it got there damaged, and sent back to me. I paid the bill, now my babys sittin unused and injured. Easy fix thank god, she'lle be up and runnin soon. It was like GOD intervened, cause I packed the SHIT outta that thing when I shipped it initially. It would take some otherworldly force to even scratch it it was packed so well. But anyway, reason I want a more "modern" MPC for the lab is 1) so I can bring my 2kxl back home and 2) Dont wanna rely on the 2kxl for commercial production. Its a studio that has people in and out 3-4 days a week, and although my clientel is respectful, I think I would cry if my 2kxl got dropped/bumped/kicked/cracked and Ide have to kill a mawfuqqa.

What the h*ll, I already have 4 samplers myself. The only difference is I don't have two of the same thing (that pic is a lie, don't believe what you see). I voted for the 4k because it's the last model jj had a hand in its development before the breakup of old school Akai.

It's got a few features not found in any other mpc. And it sounds good as sh!t when you pump those drums/samples.

That's not true. JJ developed the original OS for the 1k (and consequently the 2.5k since they are the same machine). If he hadn't, then he wouldn't have had the source code needed to develop his OS.

At any rate, I couldn't imagine using any other mpc full time besides a JJ OS machine, I'm thoroughly spoiled... . At times I want to see what that Z-series engine in the 4k is like, sometimes I lust after the filters, effects, and synth algorithms in the 5k, but JJ is just plain too damn dope.

I used the 4k for quite a while. Moving onto an MPD32 with Battery and my 2kXL. It's a beast of a machine, as in heavy as hell. If you're not moving it, then no big deal, but who would want to take that beast anywhere. I convinced myself I needed a 24bit machine. Dont ask!!! I was wrong. I like the Aksys interface, the ability to assign samples to pads from computer. 2500 has the USB too. I like that it has lot's of pad banks. The big screen is a nice thing. The filters are damn good, but damn, why do they have so many damn menu's. It's like 3 steps to change a pad from poly, mono, one shot. Never did make a default program.

If I could do it all over again, I'd get an MPC1000 with the JJOS. I put my 4k on Craigslist and I can't believe they're just not worth what I paid. I keep lowering the price and nothing. Any lower and I wont bother. Damn thing is fully loaded too. I saw some on eBay. I almost cried at how cheap they are now!!!

The 2500 would be a good option too, I imagine. Though my only experience with it was with an old OS and I remember friend having to restart every time he loaded in a new program. This is a few years back now.

I am a 4k fanboy I admit. But the effects are not all that. Yeah it does have a way more than anything before it in the old skool Akai lineup. But there is one and only one advantage the 2500 has...
