Active vs Passive DI

Im about to get a DI box for my 2500. Do I need an active DI or will a passive one work fine? Why? Its my understanding that the active DI is only needed if the level is very quiet. Is this true?

This is for stage setups where the MP is going through a DI, to a snake and to the club/venue mixer. (Not directly to speakers)

i prefer passive DI, for simplicity and no battery issues.
if there is any volume drop then it can easily be made up at the mixer.

probably more of a case of choosing a good DI, regardless of whether its active or passive.

the man above got the anws. good quailty passive i got to audition quite a few di boxes over the years. personal taste was the groove tube passive di. lot of hype on the edirol ones over priced over rated. they make more money for the sales guy **** that..

The band I would run sound for on occasion use passive di boxes for all the musicians except for the drummer (unless he's using a 1k or whatever with his set).
