Sounds like youve been having the same experience as me. I have however been sampling keyboards riffs and sounds into the mpc for the last couple of nights and all has been ok so far, im finally really enjoying using the machine, building up a nice professional sounding atmospheric/melodic drum n bass track. After reading what you put about the input levels iv noticed, although ive not thought much of it, that looking at the level meters on screen when im inn sample mode they dont move identical to each other, in fact they are way different. Ive outputted both left and right from my korg microX . It seems the left raises higher than the right but they both diminish differently, and seperatly. Is that my synth or the mpc, or just the mpc display? I daren't check it now on the headphones (im running it through a blockrocker ipod dock). Oh no, im ignoring that, im not looking into it. When i first saw the ad of that Akai guy on youtube talking through the mpc 5000 i thought it was something far too complex and professional for me. I splashed out and i have one, and i can use it too! Thing is my feelings of it being a major proffessional bit of kit have dissapeared. In a selfish way im glad im not the only one suffering or reporting these problems.
Akai haven't responded to my two error messages that i emailed them about a few nights ago. I only wanted reasurance that its nothing i should be stressing about.
Anyway, back to the DnB track. I prey i get it finished before any crashes, breaks, freezes, fires, explosions..... I dont want to waste this tune.
