Akai s5000

Hi

I own a MPC1000 for quite some time now and really like the thing. I have been doing all of my sampling with it, mostly of old synths. i have been thinking of getting an s5000 sampler. Has anyone here any eperence with 5000. what kind of sound difference should I expect etc.. ?

i own the Z4 which is kind of the follow-up product of the S5000, i really like that thing. these machines are capable of many things concerning sampling for example you are not limited to 64 keys but you can make yourself real 88 keys programs with it, editing features are more advanced and you have much more sampling time (my maxed out Z4 has 512MB )
if you go for an S5000 make sure it has the USB expansion built in because that gives it much better connectivity, you'll be able to edit all your programs on your computer with the aksys software by akai. generelly i'd recommend buying one with as many expansion cards built in as possible because these things are often rare and always expensive.

yeah the s5000 isalright what were you going to pay for one?

the aksys was nice...only if they did a few updates and added somethings

Yeah the 5000 is a great addition (esp. with the usb board)
pretty big screen
can load all the akai libraries (except s900/950)
filter section is great
sound design is extensive
sound good

i got a S5000 long before my mpc, and i still love that thing. the usb board really makes it. i use it to record into my pc instead A/D box like most folks. you can set the record trigger to midi, and then send the midi signal from where ever you want to punch in at with the software. works great for me.

the guy is selling for 350 can so about 300 us fully expanded

i've been thinking about an s6000 for a while now. def wont buy one unless i can get a really good deal. am trying to get into kontakt at the moment, but i think im gonna end up wanting hardware for my main workhorse.

if you have never used hardware before, then you may want to stick to kontakt. -your computer monitor is a lot bigger than the screen on the s6000. also, editing samples on the computer is faster. cutting loops, or editing larger samples usually take a while on hardware, because they can't crunch numbers as fast as a computer. but working w/hardware does have it's own charm, and every piece of hardware has it's own personality, like person. i love it.

one thing the akai can do, that kontakt cannot do... the s6000 can actually sample! WOW! a sampler that can actually sample! what a novel idea...

i'm used to hardware, because that's all i have ever used over the past 9-10 years. eventhough i'm trying -more like forcing myself to get more into using emuluator x for sampling and editing... i just can't seem to put my mpc, asr-x, or EOS down, not for a minute.

yea i've always wanted to add the usb board myself

i love the filters the most

would you boys know if there is zone chop option on the S5000 , like we find on the 2kXL ?

Save up for a s6000, at some point you will thank me for this advice. I have a s5000 but am looking for a s6000 now. Also the s6000 has all available options build in to it.

What? Is this ur private topic, tjeesus, to answer ur question: NO.

The price of a used 6000 is way to much compared to an 5000.
I bought a second 5000 fully loaded for 250 euros (128 voices, 16 output, usb and fx), an 6000 goes for bout 450 euros.
The detachable screen is a nice feature and I have used it several times, but it doesn't justify the extra money.

I'm still shocked to see the prices dropped so low.
I bought my 1st 5000 when they where announced by akai (Preordered), and paid 3000 dollars for it. Look at the prices now.
