MPC2000XL -- Poor Static Sample

Got this MPC recently and bought all the cables necessary for sampling, but whenever I try and sample, whether it be from my iPod or turntable (via Mixer), all I get is a terrible static sample.

I've tried adjusting the Rec Gain knob, but nothing changes. I've looked around the forums, and the general consensus seems to be reseating the ram/memory.

My MPC only came with the stock 2MB...anyone have any experience with this? Know how to fix this?

Are you sure the record source is set correctly? What kind of cable are you using?
Try all the different settings, stereo, mono l, mono r, see if there is a difference.
I think I remember one time setting my source to digital, when I had no digital plugged in, and I got a lot of static.
I might be totally making that up though, can't remember.

An audio file of the static might ring bells for someone who has experienced it before. It could be bad cable or jack, as well.

Does it sound ok while you monitor, and it's just after you commit the sample that there is a problem? If it sounds ok while monitoring, but once it's in memory it's garbage, then yes, it sounds like a memory issue.

Sorry I don't have the answers, just trying to get a clearer picture of what's going on.

What types of cables are you using to connect your instruments into your MPC? Can you take pictures of them?

Good advice...same goes for if you are using some sort of y-adapter to 'mix' two stereo channels to one mono channel.

Don't do that!
