MPC500 Sampling issue

Hey everyone, i'm very new to music, with no experience but listening experience... Anyways, i'm trying to learn of the tutorial which I bought, and I'm currently in section 008 which is sampling sounds. My setup is the Akai MPC500, a Numark TTUSB Turntable. Both are connected to a M1USB Numark Mixer. The problem I have is that when I start the record, The meter on my mpc500 does not move like the tutorial says it should. Does anyone have any idea why that is? Incorrect setup? If so, any tips?

are the cables running from the mpc plugged in to the "outs" or "ins" on the mixer, and sounds like you are not going out from mixer to the IN on the mpc.....

okay the way i've got it going like this, on the mixer in the output section leads to the speakers. on ch 1 ive got it in line and it leads to my mpc500 in the input section... for the turntable it is in the phono section leading to the turntable....

Bro, 1st) run the speakers out of the mpc
2nd) run the outs from the mixer to the mpc
3rd) there is no need to run the mpc to a dj mixer really, that is only the phono pre amp and eq for your turntable.

like I said i'm quite new to this stuff, okay so when i do that, i won't be able to hear what im sampling?

yes you will because the it will pass through the mpc while in the record mode even if your not recording.....TRUST ME, just set it up that way
