Resolution

So the MPC 4000's sequencer is 960ppq...Im hearing that I can change this resolution to something lower so I can get it to so called swing like the 3000? What is this that Im hearing? Is it BS?

It's called time code. The higher the resolution, the looser the grid.

The lower this is, the tighter or stiffer the resolution becomes.

It's the TC: setting in the upper middle of your main seq page.

You'll have to try the different settings to figure out which one fits your needs. Plus when you highlight this setting & hit the "window" button, you'll see more options (relating to timing correction) to either move the note data either forward or backwards to give it the feel you're after.

But keep in mind that a little goes a long way.

So basically its the timing correction, quick question, can you tell me why my Motif wont sequence in 1/16th note when I have TC set to 1/16 but it works fine in 1/8 should I develop a workaround for not being able to play in 1/16? Any ideas?

It's time code rather than time correction. IDK about sequencing your motif off the 4k, however I can tell you how to deal with it from a daw standpoint.

The DAW Im using is Pro Tools...I have everything hooked up and synced to where when I press Sync and then press Record and Play it dumps the track into Pro Tools. So, this time code youre talking about, I have my Sync set to Midi Time Code should I enable Midi Machine Control? Im not too sure, good looks on this clarification Dab.

Some folks like making the 4k the master and some prefer the daw to be the master. I prefer having the daw master sync the 4k via mtc and then on occasion or very seldom use midi clock if I have to. But 99% of the time it's mtc and everything syncs like it's suppose to.

MMC is for transport control meaning everything that goes on with the daw as far as forward, rewind, play, stop, & record are mirrored on the mpc as well. So MMC isn't really necessary unless you feel you need to utilize this feature.

The only thing I can think of that MMC would have a huge benefit would be the difference in not experincing that slight delay when everything starts like you get when using MTC.

THanks for that info Dab, now I have my sync hooked up to Midi 1 and Out A...

When I turn on Sync I can press play on Pro Tools and the MPC will show EXT on the Tempo...

Now when I bounce into Pro Tools I press Record and the MPC starts playing...

But, sometimes, it wont play the notes on time or like you said with the delay...so I should switch to MTC? Im not sure on which one is the best.

To get around the delay, you have to insert a blank measure at the begining of both the mpc (in song mode of course) and pt. Otherwise, you'll always have that slight delay at the begining of your sequence.

MTC is tighter than Midi Clock from my experiences.
