4000 V.S. 3000 Debate

So having owned the 2500, 3000, 5000, and now 4000...I have come to the conclusion that the 4000 is the best MPC in terms of it being a MPC. I mean the swing of it is just clean, its like a updated 3000 in comparison, I can still make my swanky beats like as if I were on a 3000, the 5000 made this possibility extremely hard, is there anyone that is opinionated as far as saying the 3000 has the best swing? What are some of your thoughts and conclusions on these 2 machines?

That being said, the 4000 is a much more superior MPC as far as features and technology, I couldnt stand using the old SCSI and ZIP technology but I do kind of miss it, see now, Im reminiscing about my Roger Linn Sequencer, Damn, this is a hard one!

What did you think about the 3k? How did it compare to the 4k purchase you made? I see alot of white 4000's is the BL 4000 superior? My boy who is an MV owner told me that the 4kBL would be a better buy.

Everyone on here has heard some isht about the White or the Blue 4000.
Unless the head of the former Akai's MPC division came and told me anything about which is better, then I'd believe it. But until then, it makes me laugh when people say 'oh i heard that blah blah blah when Numark blah blah blah...'
The Blue+ edition apparently came with bigger HDD and an output expansion card, i forget which one.
They are the same machine, i have even had a white and a blue open at the same time and they had matching parts.

3k is cool if you are old school and like workflow. Of course the 4k is a step above just preference.

W4k vs B4k no difference just a bs scheme by numark when they took over Akai.

That was a debate on selling the 4k for the 3k...Im asking who thinks the 3k is better then the 4k and vice versa, I mean the forum is dead, I was just trying to get it live again.

THats wassup...yeah I did like the workflow on the 3000 but I like it even better on the 4k...I mean I cant compare the 2 but I think I will buy another 3k...

well the 4k has like 15 times more ram, it has a different type of sampler, and I would think the capabilities of each of the two machines would have the user thinking differently when working on projects..


I think comparing the two would be important if you planned on picking up one or the other and you never tried them before... but really it would depend on what it is you plan on doing with them and all that.

obviously if you are the type of person who requires more then 32 megs of sample time then the 4k will be the obvious winner.

What you will find is that the same stuff will be repeated regardless of how you word the question.

The 3000 does this, the 4000 does that...

It gets boringly repetitive after a while as there is nothing new to add.

There are only so many MPC comparisons that can be made which explains why this is a slow moving forum.

The 4k is a very dynamic sampling engine(z8)it really has a big range.Great depth.Much,much more so than my 2k had.Also the sequencer is intense.plus editing of samples,fx.Probably loose some of the charm of the 3k s sound ans sequencer.But hey,its a more up to date machine in league with the computer era.Plus usb and q links.wow.The 4k is the first and last 3k update.LOL.Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if I may interject, pretty much any answer about this will come down to preference
I've used all MPCs except the 5oo and the 5ooo extensively, and for my money the 3ooo is not only my favorite MPC, but the most comfortable electronic instrument I've ever used
Roger Linn knew what he was doing when he did the layout for the 6o/6oII and the 3ooo
that aspect of using any drum machine is extremely important to me, much moreso than features, so if given the choice trading my 3ooo for a 4ooo?
I wouldn't do it
but if you need more than 2 mins sample time, effects and other options for storage besides floppy/ZIP, then I'd go with the 4ooo
but for my taste the 4ooo's sampling engine is too clean for me; I'm not willing to go above 16 bit and autochop can kiss my entire ass
and I hate using the wavform editing, I prefer the number parameters and zoning, it's just faster and more efficient for me
but the main thing is not to let someone talk you into one or another; study up on them all and go from there because at the end of the day you'll be the one turning it on and using it
