Must stop radio sounds....

So ive been getting radio sounds when Im in record mode for some reason....Been doing it for awhile now.Pretty sure its my mixer so im thinkin of scrathing the mixer all together and rockin a phono preamp...Anyone rockin just a preamp and no mixers out there got any feedback on this? And if so any good preamp suggestions.....Peace

Sounds like a RFI or EMI (radio frequency interference) problem.

One way to combat this is to hook up all your gear into a conditioned power source other than the conventional consumer power strip which I see a lot of katz using.

Before I invested in conditioned rack mounted pwr conditioners, I too would experience radio transmission through my setup.

Then I read up that I would have to connect all my gear to powered conditioners that specifically specialized in getting rid of this.

From that point on, I invested in at least five (8-10 outlet type) rack mounted (ETA & Furman) pwr conditioners as well as a APC battery backup unit to rid my system of any & all RFI issues (and it's been like this for at least the past 15+ years on the rack conditioners).

Though I'm not saying not to use consumer pwr strips, at least if you do, make sure they're branched off of one of the outlets coming from a dedicated conditioned pwr source.

And the way I look at it is...if the pros do it, why can't I.

But there's def plenty of info on dealing with system interference & hum.

Also, I had this problem with an old M-Audio Mobile Pre hooked up bus power thru a laptop. Turns out the interferience came from using unbalanced cables.Check your cabling, always use stereo(TRS) balanced if your going line to line. XLR's are balanced, so u should not have any trouble there.

+1, and avoid mismatching between balanced & unbalanced cables/connections since that third contact/rail is important.

I have noticed that to a be a problem with my setup. Sometimes when I am practicing my scratches in headphones plugged directly into my DJ mixer, I can hear a radio signal being received...Originally I thought it was from my Serato box being plugged into my macbook pro, but then noticed the same problem when practicing with just vinyl and my serato box not being plugged in.

Also, my studio monitors have a lot of hum coming from them quite frequently.

Would a conditioned power source resolve both of these issues or just the radio feedback? All of my equipment are plugged into surge procetors and those are plugged directly into the wall outlets.

It sounds like you're still working with "dirty power". And the spaghetti effect will aid in this too.

Different wiring/cables grouped, tied, and routed in there own fashion plays a big part in this as well as the assisted means like I pointed out in my first post.

Like wallwarts/transformers, which would seem to me that they would sorta generate some kind of magnetic field or something. They get put away far from any of my audio cables and whatnot.

I noticed i was receiving transmissions from what i assumed to be Aliens, they were telling me to go to D.C. and attack Ballack Ollllllama. I bought some tinfoil, fashioned it into a hat and now i don't feel like the electric eel has got me by the brain banana anymore.
