What am I doing wrong

something's gotta be wrong with the way I'm working . I use the mpc4000 to sequence all my tracks , and I use the rs7000 as a sound module/synth but when I save I have to name the track and save it on the mpc then go and save it with the same name on the rs7000 to keep track of it .then when I load it I have to load the mpc and then the rs7000 that's too much work . A couple of day's ago I was in the studio with a upcoming artist that I sold a beat to and the engineer told me that there is a better way to do what I was doing but I didn't get the chance to let him show me the better way but he said that all I should have to do is load up the mpc 4000 and press play and the rs7000 should follow the lead .does anyone know the solution to my problem ? what is the step I'm missing

program changes via midi


pretty much put the right bank and program in that bank and when u hit play it will automatically select the programs

yeah ice slim got it right. you need to enable program changes in the rs7000 and alow the mpc to send program and bank messages. then just dial it in the main page per track and you should be rolling...

You can also check sysex dumps. Not sure if the rs7000 can...
If it is possible, and I guess so, record the dump into the MPC on a track and route it to the rs7000. Save the data within the first sequence of a song.

Next time you load the song or sequence you first play the sysex dump and voila, the original sound is recalled.

The advantage is that even if you (accidently) change the sound in the program you still have the original sound stored in the sequence. You'll never loose your sounds. Even in the worst case senario, when you have a gig and your machine is broken and you need to rent a second you still have the sound stored in your song not in the machine.

So if it is possible and not too difficult i'd definately also try sysex.

btw it would be a wise choice to sell your rs7000 and buy a good synth for that money..... You now have a sequencer and a phrase sampler you dont use.

Get rid of it and buy a good synth for those $1000

the rs7000 already paid for itself with the tracks that I made on it and sold .and I still have 100's of tracks in my catalog that I made with the rs7000 alone so selling that is like goodbye to a lot of man hours .I might pick up a motif es to replace my Trinty that I'm using only as a midi controller .

Ok

To change the Banks and Patch selections works like this
Open the window on patch selection,

Turn on Bank select
Set The MSB
Set the LSB

How do you know what the midi module MSB or LSB is?
Check your manual of the bank you want to control
The EMU mods are like this
Bank Selet ON
MSB 0
LSB 1 THROUGH 4 (change in between all 4 banks ABC@D)
Exit out of the window and scroll through the sounds.
All EMU mod work the same

My Virus C works the same as The EMU
Banks Select ON
MSB 0
LSB 1 THROUGH 4 (ABCD)

My Roland works like This
Bank Select ON
MSB 80 through 85
LSB 1 through 5

I change expansions through the MSB
And Banks through the LSB

If your unit comes up with not installed its because your trying to
access a slot that has no expansion mod in it.
Like if you have a protuess and your trying to control but you pick
a expansion slot thats has no rom.

When you save your seq, it will call up all the right patchs next
time you load it. Works perfect and it really makes a diffrence.
Check out the manual of the unit you want to control it will give you
the correct MSB and LSB to work with.
