Mpc 2000 sampling issue

Okay so I just bought my very first mpc which is a 2000 classic and I'm already having problems tryna sample.. Gettin a lil frustrated now but sound does flow through the mpc it shows through the level meter that audio is going through as well.. Okay here's the problem, when I try to sample something for example from my iPod I go to the sample screen, and when I try to enter the "time" the amount of seconds it won't save and it only stays at 0.9 seconds. And even if I try to sample 0.9 sec of audio it doesn't seem to record the sound.. When I press playback i don't hear anything. I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or if I got ripped off. Any suggestions?

well extend it passed the 0.9 seconds because you could always trim it later on...

now you hear the sound coming though so we know the gain (rec vol) is turned up.

are you sure you are actually recording a sound? maybe go into the trim screen and search for the sound?

Yeah I'm pretty sure it records a "sound" because it always stops after 0.9 seconds and asks me to name the sample. And I can't extend it pass 0.9 seconds because it stops Recording right after that automatically..

you should see a option to change how long your recording is set for in the record screen

Okay I realize that this thing is inconsistent.. Now it shows dashes on the time slot and it still won't let me pick how many seconds i want to sample. I was thinking it might be cause I don't have enough memory on my floppy? How do I erase everything on a floppy on the mpc cause I'm using an old floppy that I found in my closet. (it has pictures in what not..)

nah it doesn't have to do with the floppy... it may have to do with the memory (ram) your machine has.

okay restart the mpc without loading any sounds from the floppy disk.

then go to the record window and there you will see a thing that lets you change the amount of time to record... it should say 0.9 right? so maybe you can make it lets say 5 seconds for now just to test it out again. the thing is, 0.9 seconds is enough for a kick but it wouldn't be very long so maybe you are recording dead air before pushing play and the sample stops recording...

First of all, what EXACTLY do you do to 'try to enter the "time" the amount of seconds'? Are you trying to type with the keypads? Are you scrolling with the jog wheel? I don't know how it works on a classic, but I assume, like other mpcs, if you manually enter numbers with the keypad, you have to hit ENTER once it is showing what you want. Also, you will not be able to enter in more seconds than you have memory for. So start small. Like 5 seconds.

However, since you are so new to this, I suggest starting with less variables.
So, my suggestion, move the cursor to the time field, rotate the scroll wheel to the right. That number should increase.

If you still have questions after that, bring em back. But I will also say, this is a very good case where the manual will help you a lot quicker than we will. All the stuff you've asked about is in there.

Anyway good luck, let us know if that at least fixed your time setting.

Edit: About that floppy with pictures n whatnot on it...I hope you are ok to lose those pictures, because you really should format the floppy in the MPC to use it properly. Formatting will erase the entire disk. You should do that.
