cymbals and records

hey everyone.
i have been trying to sample some nice cymbals lately but am having a tough time finding any because they ring so long and usually a snare or bass drum or something else is played while they are still ringing. i am getting a little discouraged, don't worry i am not asking anyone to give their sample sources up or anything. i just want a little reassurance that there are records out there where i can find some good cymbal hits. i have been mainly in jazz records for these but maybe i should look at some funk records.

get the Dipset-Diplomatic Immunity album on vinyl, lots of good cymbals/crashes/closed hats/open hats/ on there

try some 70's classic rock there's good stuff there.
any band from that time ahs good sounds.

thanx i appreciate that input, just got a little discouraged u know. happens sometimes when u are looking for certain things and for some reason just can't find it. so i appreciate it.

For my symbols, i use the samples on my triton, or emu.......I know its not much help....but i agree with you, its a little hard for symbols. Crashes seem easy though.

But for a ride symbol......id try searching the internet. Im sure you could find at triton sample or something.

I garuentee when you find one on vinyl though youll be happy as fck!

drum records (like drum battle etc)

also maybe this'd be more at home in the production techniques but you can.....

sample the ride thats got drums coming in as it tails off....
get the whole sound, (even the unwanted drums)
give it a little stretch (maybe 20%)
if u have the equipment give it some eqing to remove sum low end
then make a copy of the portion of the ride that doesn't have the unwanted drums on (sound A).
then...
take a portion of this new sound, from a point after the initial hit to a point before it ends,
make this into a seperate sound(sound B).
copy it a few times (sounds C-E)

then arrange as follows...

sound A (initial hit) decay 20-40
sound B (tuning +2) attack 20-30 decay 20-30
sound C (tuning +3) attack 20 - 30 decay 15 - 20
sound D (tuning +4) attack 15-20 decay 10 - 15
sound E (tuning +5) attack 10- 15

also have the volume fading through the sequence

this give the effect of the cymbal riding off if you layer them so they slightly overlap (with the attacks and decays)
you may also wanna time stretch some of sounds C-E.

very long winded but really not that hard to do...
obviously finding the perfect ride is much better but this can help if you're using a generic drum break with that one amazing ride.
