Problems repeat with data on Compact Flash card

Hi guys, i am new here, i looked here for the answer of my problem, but i haven't found...
My card (Emtec 1 GB Compact Flash, black one 135 x speed) and not only this one has this problem:
- when i loading some samples or project, and want to return to previous folder - MPC stop working, and I can't "movin" on the card, it seems like its frozen

Names of the folders are short and each folder I made on MPC. Is this problem with some samples or maybe problem of number of samples in some folders? I made format on MPC, but the samples i keep on my Macintosh. Is this problem? That some sounds i transfered from MAC? But they are originaly from windows.

Please help, because this problem repeat itself. Thanks!

i got this message too and now i am having problems with a disc write error message. to my knowledge it isnt advised to hook up the cf card to a mac because mac creates secret folders that mess with the mp.

I'm not 100% sure what you're saying here... You can't back up out of the folder you're in, or the MPC actually freezes? A couple of options if it's the first scenario. You hit "load" again and you're returned to the root directory (or you go to the main screen and return from there). You can also sort of back up one step and use the scroll wheel to navigate between folders.

However, going back two folder "levels" can sometimes actually freeze the MPC. You have to be really careful with this. I tend to use the "load" thing above to get back to the root directory.

I don't know if the mac secret folders actually mess up anything, but they can (invisibly) eat up some space...

Mac OS X automatically creates hidden files (which contain folder preference info only used by Mac OS X) in the folders on CF card, as soon as the folder is viewed on Mac. The hidden files cause XL some glitch like you are having.
I don't know how to configure Mac not to make hidden files... I know it is quite annoying... (Please let me know if you know how.)

The hidden files can be deleted on Windows (you have to make change on "Folder Options", select "Show hidden files and folders")

I use VMware Fusion (virtual PC) when I have to transport data between CF card and my Mac.

For quick solution (on XL), you can reset current folder by changing device (select any SCSI device), then choose CF card (ATAPI device) again. that way, you are back to root folder. I know it is not a perfect solution, but you can it least exit from the subfolder you are locked in.

By the way, the file name on the CF card must not be longer than 8 characters. (keep file names in DOS format. Don't use characters other than alphabet, numbers, underscore, and hyphen.)
I don't know about disk write error message though.

Dude, right above your post I just suggested a quicker solution (which I learnt from someone on here). Just hit LOAD again and you're in the root directory.

By the way, I tried to find OS X utility to delete those hidden files that OS X leaves on CF card.
I think I found the solution for OS X users to avoid this glitch.
It is a small Mac OS X app called "CleanUp smb mess." (it is freeware.)
Eject (unmount) the CF card by dragging the CF card icon to CleanUp Smb Mess icon. It deletes most of hidden files OS X leaves on CF card, then it ejects (unmount) the card.
(It does not delete ALL the OS X's hidden files (I checked on Windows), but it seems that XL doesn't mind those hidden files anyway.)
I tested a bit, it worked fine for me so far.

I have been keeping my MPC cards away from my mac like the plague.

Yeah, good looking on that Cleanup program. I was using a thing called BlueHarvest, which didn't really seem to do jack sh*t.

I didn't know about BlueHarvest app, but it should do the same job though, if it is setup correctly.

This is how uncleaned CF card looks like on Windows, with "show hidden files" preference.



All files and folders, except "ALL_SEQ_.all", are hidden files that Mac OS X left.

OS X also leaves hidden files on sub folders too, so it is hard to clean up if you have a lot of sub folders.

I have not used BlueHarvest, but make sure that it is set up so that it deletes hidden folders too.

The setup isn't all that complicated, even in the "advanced mode"-- I'm not saying it doesn't do anything, but my CF cards sure aren't free of Mac clutter, either.

For some reason that Cleanup thing didn't work on my computer, it stops working every time I drop a disk on it...
