I dont know much about the genre in terms of specific artists and things they produced or techniques they signatured... (if that makes sense) but I have been quite impressed by some producer's LFO work, especially when they are unique with it rather then the same exact bass synth patch all the time and the same reverb snare on every song. But being unique and the lack of it is not specific to dubstep... every genre suffers with the same thing.
as for the britney spears song, my girl listens to pop radio and they play that song enough.... while I am not a fan of pop artists tapping into non pop genres of music.... at least that track is not as bad as it would have been... the dubstep section had some decent elements if you ignore the thought of what you are actually listening to.
