help me solve intermittent SPDIF noise problem

hi!

to save input/output space im using the mpc1000 spidif connections,
only problem is that after about a minute or so there is a harsh digital noise that crushes everything coming out of the mpc. it lasts about 10 seconds and then, predictably comes back as long as im using the machine.

the mpc is hooked up to a motu 828 mkII and the bit rates are all setup correctly.

Could be a digital syncing problem.
Also could be bad wiring

Having the same problem, incidentally with the same equipment (1k and 828mkII)... It doesn't happen when I have one or the other SPDIF hooked up, but when I have both SPDIF ports connected (MPC out -> 828 in, and 828 out -> MPC in) I get short bursts of white noise.

If I connect the MPC SPDIF out to the 828 and my SSL Alpha Channel to my MPC SPDIF in, everything works fine, its only when both SPDIF ports are hooked to the 828.

Anyone else have an 828? Or does anyone else have both SPDIF ports hooked up to another soundcard or converter with no problems?

Had a similar problem using spdif on the 1000 connected to a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. Just random distortion throughout the signal. In the end I figured that the cpu was getting bogged down. So after a reboot, shutting down all unnecessary programs, and disabling the internet connection (laptop users, shut down the wifi), everything worked fine. This is one of the many pitfalls of not having a dedicated music computer, and I'm too lazy to set up a dual boot

I believe you but since you didn't say so in your post, I have to ask: Are you using an actual spdif cable or are you using a plain old rca cable? This is a common mistake many people make.

Thanks for that tip, I'll try that. Out of curiosity, did you have SPDIF connections going in both directions?

Can't speak for him (and his post is a year and a half old so I'd be surprised if he answers...) but I'm using actual SPDIF cables...

Nope, just MPC out to interface in.
