Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi. this has probably been covered somewhere before but having a quick scroll i cant see anything.
Im looking for an internal card reader. Ive got a startech cf reader (cost me £18) and it works ok with sandisk
but not with anything else. Its not hot swap either. i found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MC-2000XL-SD-CF-Multi-Card-Media-Reader-MPC2000XL-/260732787620?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb4e29ba4

its in the states so by the time ive paid tax and shipping its £100+. It looks identical to the addonics AEUDMD4.
Has anyone had success with this drive? I tried the older version without any luck.

Thanks

It's the same drive as the addonics AEUDMD4 (which does not work with the MPC2000XL) but this one that is supposedly hot swappable has different firmware and a few hardware modifications. This is the same drive that I fooled around with (when I owned SCSIforSamplers) and was thinking about selling but I had way too many problems with it working reliably. Many times, I'd get the debug screen when trying to access it and other times, it would lock the MPC up. The vendor I was working with couldn't seem to reliably fix the problems so I gave up on them. Possibly these guys (bnradiosquad, who I've never heard of) found a different vendor who could get the mods done right. If so, it looks like a nice product. Since they have a 7-day refund policy, you can't go wrong.

I think I saw someone posting here who had bought one of these and he said it worked great. Maybe he will see this post and let us know more about the drive and its reliability.

Thanks for the reply.
What happened to scsi for samplers? Has it been sold to mpc stuff?

i'm in the UK as well so will advise what the customs charge comes to

My two cents...

Before you are about to spend over 100 bucks on the CF reader, You should really consider whether or not hot-swap capability is a necessary feature.

I actually considered buying that one, but I decided that I should not spend 100 bucks for CF reader (my budget is VERY tight), so I bought Addonics non-hot-swappable IDE CF-reader, which I copped for only for 20 bucks, including shipping. (I posted the photos of installation process on this forum.)
I thought I would miss hot-swap capability a lot, but once I bulid up sound library on my CF card, now I feel that I didn't need the hot-swap capability at all. I'm glad I didn't spend a CF reader for over 100 bucks.

Of course you might feel need it (or want it) still, everybody has different work flow, but NON hot-swappable CF reader is pretty nice too.
Needless to say, either hot-swappable or not, CF card reader does not make noise!

ive also got an scm pcd-60b with flashed firmware in an external caddy which i used to use on my 2k classic.
You can only use the pcmcia slot with cf adapter but it reads any card and hot swaps. Im just a fussy git
and wanted hot swap internally. I could mount that in there but seems pointless as only 1 slot works. (but it works very well).

Ill stick with the non hot swap startech cf drive for the time being. Just have to make sure i always use sandisk cards.
It hates everything else.

Thanks for the replies its most appreciated.
