Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

can the 2kxl receive multiple midi channels simultaneously? ie, if i were to send midi notes on ch 1 AND midi notes on ch 2 to an mpc2000xl, would ch 1 be recorded to track 1 and ch 2 be recorded to track 2?

(question in less words: is the mpc2000xl multitimbral?)

What about OPEN WINDOW on the drum/midi assignment part of a track in the main screen?

I know you can change the receive channel there, but have not tried to record multiple channels myself.

EDIT: Manual, p. 54, referring to the 'S' to the left of the drum/midi assignment.

Here you can select S for single track recording or M for multiple track recording.
In single track recording mode, only the track currently selected in the Main Screen will be recorded.
In the multiple track recording mode, a number of tracks can be recorded simultaneously.
If you selected multiple track recording, press OPEN WINDOW to display the Multi Recording
Setup screen.

thanks for the info. I have the 2000 and there is only an REC16 option so it will record on all 16 Channels. I didnt use this before but it could be handy in combination with a DAW or a Masterkeyboard. I can imagine setting every pad of an external pad controller (or ranges on a masterkeyboard) different channels and record everythin in one take but every pad (or range) has its own track on the MPC already (without copieing and such)
