I was curious what kind of mixers or preamps you all sample through.
Also do you guys eq the sample before you sample it or do you sample and eq it later in a DAW?

I have my turntable hooked up to a electrix filter factory but it mostly stays on bypass mode.
I personally like to eq prior to sampling it, I do this mostly with drums, but when it comes to a loop I like to put it in plain and eq it later after it has been chopped.


enlighten me as to what you do (unless it is a super secret technique).

I sample into my MPC4000 directly from deadicated turntable. 24bit 48khz. Flat eq. As hot as possible. Use ak.sys to transfer to computer for editing.

what i do is eq a bit though my dj mixer i use a stanton sk-2 and sample it in to my mpc and then when i record tracks into my VS880 i usually eq the drums some more, then the rest of the samples i just add or subtract eq to them ,dependingon how they sound i like to boost it a little higher than what it comes out of the mpc. so i just raise the track level on my VS880.

I ALWAYS eq before sampling. Always. I run my turntable through a basic hifi amplifier and eq it there, and if it needs extra eq'ing I got a 7 band rotel eq that I got from my boy that does the trick.

And when I sample something I do a couple of takes with different eq's, for instance one with all the highs turned down in case I want to filter it to a bassline or something.

Turntable->DJ mixer->MPC, change EQ settings with the mixer if neccesary

I sample shit raw into my sp505 load as possible, but im hoping to locate alil something to run my samples thru cos the 505 can sound kind of thin by itself.

but i always eq + compress my drums on the way in thats madatory now.

I just compress, if not take it flat.

flat with a direct connect.

but i also search for solo sounds......i dont use the low end theory too often. i right my basslines with my bass samples so usually then i dont have to worry about eq, etc.

Alway's HOT as possible, thru Mixer that has been eq'd.

I run a Numark TTX-1 thru a Roland VP-9000 processor then into Pro Tools and the MPC4K using the digital outputs on the back.

Has lots of special effects, and can manpiulate and timestretch without distortion.

No eq. A litttle compression sometimes, and i run it trough a limiter.
