No it doesnt work like that, you buy 2x 256 ram sticks and you get 512mb. I think the 16mb that sits onboard somewhere on the 4000 basically gets disabled when you fill the ram slots to the max. Atleast I never heard anyone state that they got 512+16 = 528 mb ram and my mpc also tells me I got 512 mb ram in its Global/Mempry window.
You cant use any type of ram either, the 4000 is very picky about this and if you dont have a clue about this shit I suggest you let someone else do it. If you're doing it yourself DONT buy the ram from akai or a music store, they overcharge about 3-4 times as compared as getting them in a computer parts store.
And get good quality ram, dont get the noname shit.
BTW, if you use the search function on here you'll find out what type of ram the 4000 works with as this has been discussed over and over.
