Putting an SSD hard drive in the MPC4000

So, I was toying with the idea of putting a modern SSD drive into the MPC4000.

Benefits: (1) VASTLY quicker loading time for samples (yes? the full 512MB is 30 seconds rather than 8 minutes...? ) (2) silent


Now if I recall correctly, the max hard drive size that the MPC4000's quaint little OS can format and address is 112GB? SSD's quite often come in 120GB (or 127GB, depending how you count), so that's ideal.

The drive form factor should be 3½ inches, which is available.

The only snag I found when browsing dabs.com was that all the drives these days have a Serial ATA (SATA) interface, whereas the MPC4000 has the old parallel IDE (P-ATA) interface.


So, anyone anyone found a source for 120GB 3½" P-ATA SSD drives? Or tried plugging a SATA > PATA adaptor between the drive and the MPC4000 motherboard?

(I've used an adaptor like that on a desktop PC and found it a bit flakey actually ... also a little bulky, might not fit inside the MPC4000...)

Any happy SSD drive users out there?

Yeah man, I do recall somebody having a bit of success with using one of those drives. And they did mention the fact that they found a pretty decent adapter to make it work, but I wish I could tell you what it was they ended up using.

As a matter of fact, I think it's a thread buried somewhere around this 4k forum from what I remember.
