What else do I need to connect my turntable to my mpc500?

Went out and bought a numark TT table and 1/4 inch adapters for the RCA cables coming out of it. I plugged them into my output plugs on my mpc and went to record and could not hear anything or get anything (the monitor was on, stereo was on). Am I missing something?





Also, has anyone actually read the "Beat making on the Mpc500" book that this website promotes so much? I'm thinking about buying it but not sure if it will be worth it, ive been dropping money like no other lately. Lastly, where do you guys get your drum sounds?

What is the exact model of your turntable. I have a Numark TT USB and it does not require a pre-amp. It plugs directly into the MPC. Some turntables require a phono preamp if it isnt built in. And you wrote that you have it plugged into the MPC's OUTPUT. That could be the problem. Make sure you are plugged into the inputs. As for the Beat Making Books sold on this site - they are an excellent reference and are worth the money IF YOU PUT THE TIME in.

I have the Numark TT USB as well, good to hear i dont need to buy a pre amp. So how would I go upon importing samples in? I have the two rca cables into the inputs, and the turntable switch on RCA line instead of RCA phono. I go to mode record and have it set on stereo, monitor on, threshold -48, Rec In. What am I doing wrong here?

I am using an MPC 2500. But even on the 500 you should at this point be able to hear your turntable through your MPC when your are playing a record. There should be a setting to turn on your analog inputs. That may be your problem.

felly! dude why would u plug the table into the mpc outputs? plug it into the INPUTS, come on bro i can help but u gotta meet me half way, and yes the bibke will help u greatly

i have a numark usb tt and i have my main level on mpc 500 at 0db, make sure that button that can be pushed in and out on your mpc 500's inputs is PUSHED OUT and turn your 500's recording level up.

if that doesnt help, you may have to buy another amp to raise the output of the turntable. ... also, check to see if your turntable has a GAIN knob on it, try turning that up

Yea I got it working but the sound is still very very low. I have the input button pushed out and record gain all the way up. any thoughts?

DPM is correct. The TTUSB does have a gain knob. Make sure your switch is set to Line and turn the gain all the way up. If this doesn't work, connect an Ipod or something to your 500 to test the inputs. Then connect the TTUSB to something else to test its output. Either the 500 or the Turntable must be bad if the settings above doesn't bring the level way up.

I have a numark pt-01 and when I'm recording into the MP it wont output any sound unless nothing but the rca out is plugged in... ie if my cans are plugged in to the table it wont wont send any sound to the MP

The TTUSB doesn't have the headphone jack (it would be slick if it did!). It is probably just a selector issue.

I have the exact same set-up and it works just fine. Make sure the turntable has "line" selected on the back, turn the gain
up and connect the TTUSB to the MPC inputs. And you need to turn the "input through" on the 2500.

It's such a weird problem. I just got it working however when I plug in the RCA's into the inputs, they only record the sound fully if they are only half plugged in. I really hope this isnt the case for all inputs cause im trying to get a microkorg to play through the inputs soon

I have been using the Numark TTUSB turntable in conjunction with the MPC 500 to sample vinyl for over a year and I have never had any problems.

On your turntable, turn the gain all the way up [turn the knob all the way to the right]--it's on the bottom/back. Also, right next to that is a RCA Phono/RCA Line switch -- make sure that is set to RCA Line.

You're going to attach RCA to 1/4-inch adapters to the RCA cables from the TTUSB.

Next plug the RCA cables (with the adapters) into the INPUTS of the MPC. (RED IS RIGHT - WHITE IS LEFT) And they really should be all the way in. If they have to hang out a little to work - there's probably a problem.

Make sure that your INPUT switch on the back of your 500 is in the outward position - LINE.

Turn on the MPC and press MODE->OTHER[8] and make sure your Master Level is set to 0dB.

Press MODE->RECORD[4] and scroll to the right to make sure you are set for Record: Rec In (NOT Record: Main). This should already be done for you.

Make sure the the REC GAIN knob directly under your MAIN VOLUME knob (on the left of your MPC) is all the way up. (This adjusts the level at which the TTUSB will be recorded.)

What you HEAR from this point on is also dependent on your MAIN VOLUME. Turn that up/down to adjust the volume of what you are HEARING through your monitors/headphones.

Start playing a record and you should see the bar moving at the bottom of your RECORD screen--showing that you are getting signal. It should be a pretty strong signal at this point too. (You may want to adjust the gain with the REC GAIN knob at this point).

If you are still not getting a strong signal, check your adapters. Maybe try switching them out with some new ones. Try using your TTUSB in another setting (not into your MPC) and see if you're having the same problem. If you ARE, there's most likely something wrong with the RCA cables or your record player. If it works FINE in another setting, it may be a problem with the INPUTS on your 500 (I suspect this may be your problem from what I've read). If this is the case, you may want to try CAREFULLY opening up your MPC and seeing if you can spot any obvious problems with your input jacks. Canned air is always a good tool to try first - maybe all you need is to blow a little dust out of there.
