2000XL SCREENS!!! OEM!!! NEW!!! FOR REALLY REAL!!!

We're still trying to nail it down due to the changing prices of the technologies used, but it comes down to the demand. Also, as explained in the thread, I'm not setting the final price. It will, however, be cheaper than a refurbished VST display.

I'm off this one for good now.

Might try to get one of these two remaining prototypes working 100% properly on my own, but I'm done with the manufacturer.

I got the opportunity to recoupe $3500 of my $5000 by turning this over to a friend of mine.

He wishes to remain anonymous.... Though, he's a guru techy nutjob who pointed out my initial mistake on the first batch of prototypes, so I think he will get it sorted, and he's got capitol. Good chance he'll have it.

But, I'm outtie.

Too much other stuff goin on in life. Got a house to clean up and renovate. Kid to raise. Studio to run. Life to live. Love this techy stuff, but not enough to go another $5k (10 total) in this right now. A shame, but has to be.

Gotta know when to walk away and prioritize.

Actually, I was talking about refurbishing screens and asking for dead MPC screens. I put out some feelers and a few know-it-alls ran me out of the room.

But that's OK - nobody is going to stop you from ordering them.

well if you got this running then great news! You probably got the normal reaction from the forum at first as you aren't even close to being the first person asking for dead screens or willing to take a stab at making new screens or refurbishing old ones. There have been dozenss of people singing that song over the years so who knew who was actually able to pull it off? We are I guess lucky that somebody who gives a **** about this issue happens to also have the ability and right approach to actually doing it for once... keep in mind that is once out of who knows how many dozens.

SMC's idea while it didn't happen was simply motivated by an ever growing concern a lot of people are experiencing... you for sure can relate on some level as you were motivated to take on the same project. You cant say it was for the fat pay cheque, lets be honest.

I wonder if your model will ever be available to the akai DPS units people been stealing screens from... hahaha.

To my understanding, the ribbon contacts must be reversed in polarity? I had attempted to stick a stock DPS screen in a 2000 classic, then read up on the mod. It involves soldering the 16 contacts from the 2000/2000xl cable upside down to the 16 contact points of the DPS ribbon cable. I did that for a friend, and it worked, but it was a **** to do. Needed a really small soldering tip and well..by the time I executed it, there was barely enough ribbon left...
Anyway, it still wasn't as stable as the screen from my 2000xl, and the mobo fried after a year. Don;t know if it was due to the dps screen, but I heard the 2000's gettin hot and havin components burn is another common problem.

It's huge for my company.

To say I'm in it for the money isn't entirely true...I'm in it for the success of my business. If the money follows, well great. If it doesn't - I haven't gone into deep debt to make me jealous of people that do make it.

Sure, I get paid, but not as much as you might think and probably a lot less. The growth of my business is the primary objective. I sometimes don't draw ANY paycheck from it, just so it will keep being profitable.


The LCD has not been officially tested with the DPS. But the ribbon connector on the LCD can be flipped over 180°, so I'd imagine that it might work. But there are no guarantees.
