Audio Interface

I need to track out my beats, so I need an audio interface. I've got a Dell laptop with Windows 7 and Cubase on it. I'm looking for something as cheap as possible, but obviously not so cheap that it's shit. What would you recommend.

This gets asked a lot. How much are you willing to spend first?

Give a figure, I'll give you my perspective of what's good in that price range.

Plus will this be usb, pci, or f/w?

I'm thinking about £200 $250. I'd consider either usb or firewire, but obviously firewire would be better.

If you missed out on that, you would have saved well over 100 bucks. Echo isn't just another run of the mill interface, them joint's use some of the best converters in the business.

And they're dead quiet in comparison to a lot of other interfaces in their price range.

No problem. I've used these products for years and can vouch that they're worth every bit of their weight in gold.

I use 2 older echo Layla 24/96 interfaces, so I know they're rock solid.

The RME hardware is excellent as well ... You can pick up the older, but still great, 9352 for £200.

Echo stuff is pretty much ok all around, but I would opt for RME with it's wonderful 'Total Mix' software over anything else in the used cat.

^^yeah, might be a good choice to go with the old RME. I used the 9632 couple years ago, VERY reliable soundcard, great quality and solid performance
