Need your advices :-)

Hi hi,

i recently bought an AKAI MPC 1000, as im really fade up to use Mac for my live sets. What i basically was doing is an hybrid between digital and analog. Mac was the master main machine, with midi sqs for basslines, some samples and the clock out for the tr-808.

i did the update to JJ OS1 and is perfectly working. I also have a 4 giga flash card. 16mb are installed, i ordered the 128 mb.

Now, my use will basically be as main machine, like i was doing with Mac before. That means

1) Midi sequences directed to the Kenton Pro 2 and then to the analog synths

2) Clock start for the drum machine through the KPro2

3) Using audio files that i cannot normally play live.

Point 3 is the main prob. as far as i know the internal memory doesnt support heavy wav files (max 128mb)....do u have any advice? do i need to buy an internal extra HD?

the MPC can't stream files straight from the memory card or the hard disk, you need to load sounds into RAM, so you'll always be limited by the amount of RAM (maximum 128MB). installing an internal HD will let you store more files on the HD, but won't let you load more than 128MB into RAM at once.

upgrading to 128MB will help you play slightly longer files, but MPCs aren't really designed for playing back long audio files like that

I do think that the only alternative is to use a CD Player, the main prob is actually for intro and outro.

or a Roland SP sampler...guess is syncable with the MPC

Perfect solution. Certain SP's can stream from CF card. Off the top of my head, I believe the 404, 555, and 606 can, not sure about the others.

Seems i have some communic. probs between the Akai and the Kenton Pro 2.

The clock is perfectly working, so im able to start the external drum machine via Sync, but it seems that the KP2 is not receiving any midi note from the Akai.

Any suggestion or method to follow?

Solved. for a strange reason Logic created a not compatible MIDI file. i re-created the same midi file with Ableton and now is perfectly working.

Any feed about this 128 RAM?

a question for you again.

i ordered the 128 MB and still not arrived, main prob is that very soon i will play live so i must go with the 16 MB default one. i have some long wav sequences i cant recreate live as i did in studio with many analog synths.

In order to do that, i created 8 different project tracks that everytime i need to 'load' live. That means: i need to stop - load - and restart. In the meanwhile i will play some noise with the sh101 but is a big finger in the ass. Is there any possibility to link them like when one project is at the end, then the next one starts? normally you can do that with 'sequences' but i was wondering if you can do that with projects.

If not, when i'll get the 128mb, is there a possibility to merge all the 8 projects previously created in an unique "project" without rewriting all the sequences again?

i have a JJ OS1 installed

another question, maybe you can explain me what happens.

The projects i created are more or less around 6 MB. after this limit, the AKAI MPC runs an 'insufficient memory' error while loading from the flash card.

They are all MONO wav (and not stereo) files.

JJOS uses part of the RAM memory for its code. So that reduces the amount of memory you can use for samples.

No. Only one project can be in memory at a time.

It is possible to save and load sequences and programs. You can use those features to merge your projects. It still has to all fit into 128mb, however.
