Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi all,

I recently bought the 128mb RAM upgrade for my MPC on eBay (not the official one, but I know lots of different RAM works and the store I got it from looked pretty legit - loads of that item sold, loads of good feedback etc.)

But when I try and install it, it just won't fit! I'm guessing the little notch in the gold contact edge, about a third of the way along the edge, should fit neatly right over the little sticking out bit that's the same shape the same distance along the receiving slot? The RAM card looks like it should fit fine into the slot, but I get it into the opening such that the plastic sticking out bit is just in the opening of the little notch, and it won't go any further. I can't see what's stopping it. It's like the RAM card is ever so slightly too thick to fit in.

The RAM wasn't too expensive so my instinct is just to buy another one from somewhere else and try that, but I wondered if anyone else here has had the same sort of experience?

Cheers,
Tom

Welcome to the forum Tom.

Resist the temptation to double-post, it will get your thread locked.

Have a quick look at the forum rules to avoid having your threads locked or moved.

I've moved your thread about the akai filter to the MPC Studio Environments forum.

Peace.

Didn't have the same experience, but I did try different 128's that fit since we have a few laying around the house. Nothing would load and I went with my original plan of purchasing it from mpcstuff.com

That worked out great. Now I have 24 minutes of sample time after clearing all the sounds it came with.

Hi Clint,

Thanks, and thanks for moving my post - I didn't notice that forum and wasn't sure where to put it!

Irie - when you say nothing would load, do you mean you could physically install it but then it just didn't work when you turned the MPC on?

I think I'm just going to sell this 128 on and get the Hynix recommended in the sticky post on here off eBay :o)

Thanks again

Yup.

The RAM chips I tried would either freeze on start up or do a scan and never complete. I got a good 128 upgrade though. It was definitely my 1st priority for this machine. Hope everything works out for ya.
