Dodgy mpcstuff pad upgrade? Or dodgy jj os2XL?

Hey all, dunno if anyone has ever encountered this problem before, but I finally got my 1k pad upgrade from MPC stuff. Weirdly(?) it came fully assembled (I'd previously seen the youtube vid that showed that you had to stick a couple of bits together)... but I didn't think anything of it, just one less job to do. I fitted it fine, no problems, all good so far, apart from when I tried to play it using JJ free OS, the sensitivity was all over the place, no matter what settings I changed the pads to, and a few were double-triple, even quadruple-triggering, which was doing my nut in!

Thought it might just be the free OS, so I splashed out for the full on JJ OS2 XL. Only problem now is that pad 14 keeps having an identity crisis and thinking its pad 6, 2 or 1, depending on which on I've more recently hit. And then to add insult to injury when it thinks its pad 1, when I do hit pad 1 or 14 it kinda double-triggers, apart from it sounds like a granular synth or something, repeatedly playing the sample at a very high resolution.

Has anyone else ever suffered this? Anyone got any suggestions? I'll make a vid if necessary so you can see if for yourselves. Its happening at a really inconvenient time too, I start gigging with it again in less than a month's time.

Kinda thinking it might be a loose connection on the 'board as a bit of fiddling seems to cure it for a bit, until I start bashing away on the pads again. Anyone know anything about the internals of the thing? Could do with getting it sorted myself rather than sending it back to the states and waiting even longer to get the thing back again. More than a little bit peed off seen as the upgrade costs a bomb, but I don't have the time or cash to send it back to them. Or anyone know of any good techs in the uk that might know what to do?

hi there. going to some tech is gonna cost a lot to get fixed, specially if its only for a loose connection.
I have MPC1000BK so I have no pad issues, just usual tact switch issue. So I can not tell you much about the MPCstuff pads that you dont already know, and I am looking at the Glow in the dark ones myself, so read you post with interest. I suspect you do not have Bk model so if you got new pads then they should work fine. Free JJOS has sensitivity of pads defaulted to very high sensitivity so try making them respond only to a velocity of at least 20, so they dont trigger multiple times when tapped.
Also I do think you should check the ribbon connection. This is a bit special Please note that you can not just pull out ribbon from connector - THIS WILL DAMAGE IT
You must pull the connectors locking mechanism. Its like a collar that the ribbon goes through into connection. So pull back the connector collar to remove or reinsert ribbon cable. Pulling it out with out doing this will damage the ribbon cable. So open it up and have a look at the connection

Yeah, it is the BK model, not the BK-N though. About 4 of the old pads were knackered. Ribbon does sound like a possibility. I'll check it out.

I'm about to open 'er back up now to see what the ribbons sayin. If you or anyone else on here got any tips on sorting the ribbon out it'd be much appreciated. Thanks for the help anywayz guy!


[Edit] The connection doesn't look like its damaged in any way, but i've tried to push the connections in a bit further just in case. Turned it back on and had a play, and after about 1min pad 14 started to think it was pad 6 again! dah!

Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead, just thought I'd say cheers for the advice - ended up replacing the ribbon cable that came with the pad fix with the one that was attached to the old pads (guess the one with the pad fix must've been damaged in transit coming over the atlantic), updated the OS, cut out some card from a record mailer to stick under the pads & its all working perfectly. I'll be sure to add pics to one of the custom mpc threads when I'm finished with it.

Can't stress enough how much better the new pads are, and with a bit of card filling the gaps between the pads/sensors, they're bang on. (I'd recommend the record mailer over corx any day as well!)

I have a similar problem but doubt it's related to ribbon. I have just installed the new pads with the newest JJOS. Even when changing both sensitivities they pads hit at the same max velocity (without full level on). When I load the original OS things work like normal and I have nice full range pads. Switch back to JJOS and everything is really load. I have tried max,low and mid on both velocity and pressure. Does the Curve or Pad On Level make that big of a difference?

Yup followed this, no matter what settings I used it sounded the same.

Weird, even when I go into 16 levels velocity everything is the same volume (this is all with full level turned off)

your VELO setting is probably at 100. turn it down to 0 for full velocity.

They were all set to 50 but it seemed to fix itself. Reset all settings on sensitivity then redialed them in and now it works, very weird bug. Thank you for the help
