MPC 500 as MIDI slave, pass THRU stop/play?

Long time no post! Hope yer all having fun

So..quick question, can't quite get something working - I've got an Korg Electribe (EMX-1) as master, going into the MPC as slave, when I press play on the EMX the MPC starts up, it's all good..

The problem is I want to take the soft THRU of the 500 out to another MIDI in on another device (RX17). When I press play on the EMX, the EMX & 500 are ok, but the RX17 does nothing.

Wondering if I'm missing something obvious, has anyone else got the 500 in the "middle" of a chain, acting as a slave to something else, but passing a start/stop MIDI clock message via soft THRU?

I've got the 500 and an electribe, but no rx. I'll try doing this tomorrow and see if I can get anything.

I tested this last night with a Roland R-70 --> MPC --> Kawai R-50e.

The Kawai was receiving Note On messages from the R-70 but did not receive MIDI Clock

When I put the MPC in MASTER mode the R-50e synced to it, when I ran the MIDI cable from the R-70 to the R-50e there was synchronisation.

Therefore it pretty much indicates that the MPC does not pass MIDI Clock information THRU when in SLAVE mode.

My "plan b" is use the MPC as the master, but to be honest transport and tempo controls are better on the EMX for me..so if it did work it would be cool. Another idea is to get a MIDI THRU box (http://www.thomann.de/gb/midi_solutions_quadra_thru.htm)..

Did you try the "soft thru" settings btw? We may be missing something as what is the point in "soft thru" if it only works in master mode.

Hi,

Quick update on soft THRU..I managed to send some CC messages through the MPC to another unit, it just doesn't carry the clock info by the looks of it (looks like it passes-on CC but not start/stop/tempo).

The test setup was a Kenton Spin Doctor to MPC 500 IN, MPC 500 OUT to EMX IN. MPC as Master, soft THRU on. I can send CC from the Spin Doctor on whatever MIDI channel I choose (once setting MPC 500 to "Receive ALL") THRU the 500 down to the EMX.
