Sampling from a movie

Whats up fam.....? There is a snippet I want to sample off the movie brown sugar.......What is the proper connection in getting that sample...Will I have to hook the 4000 up to the dvd/vcr or do I just hook it up directly to the tv using the audio connection?........

I would patch the DVD or VCR thru a mixer and then to the MPC.

Thats my only thing..I don't have a mixer.......!

Try connecting the DVD player thru your Stereo Reciever and patch thru the Tape outs.

does your DVD player have RCA outputs? Just run that into the MPC inputs...bam and you're done! If it only has optical out, you got to run it through the stereo.

my best movie samples come from DIRECT CONNECT.
Either VCR or DVD straight into the MPC and do your filtering to reduce the NOISE levels in the background. The longer the chain the higher the chance of increased white noise.

I smacked myself on the forehead for missing that obvious answer. I just realized, since I have a DVD player with a built in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder I can connect the center channel (for Dialog) directly into the Digital input. Or other channels for sound effects. NICE!

The output of your DD decoder is an *analog* signal. You can't use that to feed your digital input, even if the connectors look identical. You'll need a conversion cable from cinch to jack to sample from the 5.1 outputs of your DVD into your analog inputs of the MPC.

Yep. your right. I haven't actually used it. As I don't sample from movies or DVD's.
