I tried to save a sequence only but when I went to load it back up it did not load the sounds and I have to go and manually load everything over.

yea i fully see what your getting at here, thing is that this is a bit linked to the history of the mpc, the mpc tends/tended to be the type of sampler you sample into then chop that sample then save the chops n deleate the original sample/peice of recorded audio, recalling the whole original sample then puttin the zones chopped to pads would of used more memory say if the samp you recorded into the mpc was 55 second and your chops only amount to 15 seconds then why recall bits from a collectivly larger file that you dont need?
As VST samplers have become the standard things have changed a lot, for the worse in many ways (for the better in some ways for some people maybe to), and you now more then ever have people putting A LOT of pre chopped samples into there mpcs, this very much goes against the orginal way/workflow of doing things on the mpc so dont expect it to be 100% catered for.
that being said i do see were you are coming from so
if cf space is that much of an isshue (either buy a CF with more space or)
(below is just basically a reapeat of what you mentioned about loading manually but pointing out that you can get the mpc500 to tell you were the samples go, which you probably allready know, if so no point reading on)
You can save just a program without the sample just turn the dat wheel when you save program and change from with sample to program only
then also save your sequence
then when you turn the mpc back on
load up your program and then sequence or vise versa
and i fink there was suposed to be a way that the mpc500 recalls the samples but as we all know the 500s os is a bit buggy n i personly kudnt get it to work (but you mite be able to if you experiment as i didn't take long trying as i have the 500 infront of me now and so i mite of missed somthing) BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
what did happen was although the program didnt load the samples it does tell me there names (with a ? next to them) for each pad when i hit that pad on the 2nd page of the program menu (1 data wheel click right), so aslong as you name your samples well and have some kind of order/naming system you can easily reload them manually as the program already tells you were they should be (which mite takes a minute or so), not the perfect solution but better then nothing if you are really stuck for CF space.
