external zipdrive problems

Hi all,
I've got some trouble connecting my external SCSI 100 MB Iomega Zip drive to the MPC 2000XL.
After my MPC had an Atapi error with the internal Zipdrive that was installed, I needed an external replacement.
When I connect the zip with the SCSI cable (I did this correctly, according to viewtopic.php?f=1&t=70545&start=0&hilit=guide+to+zip+drives), and switch the MPC loading device to SCSI 0 or 1 it says 'No device connected'. Also, when i put a 100 MB Zip disk into the drive, it immediately spits it out.
Any help/advice would be appreciated!

my xl reads my external zip100 on scsi-5, I scroll through the numbers of the load up screen. Also I only have used the scsi zip drives with the jumpers on the back of the drive set to5.

make sure your scsi zip drive has 2 switches between the ports. connect drive (left port) to MPC2000xl. set termination to 1. scsi id to 5. cannot be scsi id 6 because there would be a scsi id conflict. the sampler is on scsi id 6. assuming cable is good, then you are ready to go.

also, from my experience, if zip disk was inserted and immediately spit out, then drive is no good. you must get another one.

I have 3 external SCSI Zip drives and have tried to connect each of them but everytime I get a "SCSI Device not ready" error. I tried different disks too. I have the drives all set on SCSI #5 and termination switched on. I only have one SCSI cable though, so could the cable just be messed up? Anyone else get this error and figure out how to get things working?

I thought it would be plug and play like my CD drive, but since you are able to save to zip are you supposed to format the disk or drive or anything like that?

^^^ have you tried other SCSI ID #s? It could be the cable also.

yeah I tried the only other option on the drivess, SCSI ID #6, but it didn't work either. Maybe as someone said above: "the sampler is on SCSI ID 6".
