JJOS Button feature

I finally set my midi controller up to control all functions and can not believe the speed.Those crappy
buttons and tact switches (not to mention the encoder)really seem like a poor design once you can
use a quality controller to zoom,mute,scroll, ect.Thanks JJ you are amazing.TYPO

so glad someone else is digging this the way i am...
this means i never have to worry about pcbs etc breaking.
i think they're adding CC => qlink control too, which means i can just take the L and R op PCBs out of my spare MPC completely and rebuild the whole thing using arduino and never have to worry about breaking stuff....no more changing data wheels...
oh yeah, i also got the breakout box LCD screen and MPD pad sensors working in the spare MPC1k again....mpc1000xl in effect as soon as the next jjos is released.

Me hopes that JJ has something else up his sleeve. I always liked the idea of someone making a very complete pad editor (like mpc maid, or blue box) but more complete, with ability to control params with a controller, not just play back of 1 layer, but play back just like mpc, etc. I know sounds unrelated to the JJOS Button feature stuff, but gets me thinking there could be some kind of companion software that can control the mpc and vice versa - something like that anyways. seems like this feature is a step to make the the mpc more controllable, which is one step closer to something like that.

What controller do you recommend to accomplish this remote control? My main concern being a device with a great data encoder. Thanks.

you could use your computer, glovepie and a mouse for the data wheel...
left/right = data wheel +1, -1
the encoders in a mouse are robust, haven't ever heard of one of them breaking.

Now i can finaly put a spintrack pro in my MPC-1000. It has always been my dream! Thanks JJ, you are awesome!!

Would you somehow rip out the current jogwheel then somehow permanently connect the spintrack internally it to one of the midi in ports?
I don't use my jogwheel at all.
I can see how sticking in a numeric keyboard would be handy for mpc 1000 users, but I'd just buy a 2500 for that.

Would you somehow rip out the current jogwheel then somehow permanently connect the spintrack internally it to one of the midi in ports?

you can use any computer human interface device (including wii, joysticks, mice, keyboards, control vinyl, you name it) as your data wheel. don't need to rip out the current jogwheel at all. if you use a DAW odds are you already have a midi cable going from DAW to mpc MIDI in, so you can just use a channel as a MPC ctrl channel (i use 16). this way you still have 15/16 channels to use.

no modding/electronicisms involved at all here, just a script in glovepie. the glovepie gui really holds your hand through the scripting process, too.

I know that.
The current jogwheel is so conveniently placed that I can't understand why anyone would want to slow their workflow down by using a jogwheel off to the side of their mpc. It's like having the steering wheel in your car placed in the passenger seat.

completely agreed. the placement of the jog wheel is the ideal location. especially if you're using MODE + data wheel turn to change tracks. as it is, that's an extremely awkward 1 handed gesture.

all the wacky ways to control a data wheel are purely academic and useless unless they are as handy/more handy than the existing data wheel.

this would be a good rotary encoder replacement for the 1k. i wouldn't know how to drop it directly into the MPC PCB, but it would be very easy to use arduino and a midi channel to use as a data wheel for jjos. one could build a little case for it and set it directly above the existing rotary encoder.

Is it more tedious than trying to find parts,taking my MPC apart, and doing a repair? Only to have to go thru this again and again.I think I will stay with the controller.

I've had my mpc2500 for 4 years and had to replace one plastic button-top in all that time.
It's all good though if that's what you prefer - we all have different ways of working.
