What's to stop someone from hitting up an online or local hobby shop (models and such) and just buying alphabetic and/or numeric decals? It seems as though you could put them on and then clear-coat a few times, that should make for a solid adherence. This is all speculation of course but it's a route I'm going to investigate.

(if anyone see's any obvious over-sights in my idea let me know before spend ours finding the letters and size i want.)

I found these pretty quick:

Here's a kind of super shop for modeling decals. From 3mm to 25mm (3mm is pretty damn tinny):

Here's a asking about different ways to apply decals:

Again, I'm not sure this will work but I do know that these model fanatics take the customizations pretty seriously. Most are working with small scale models so there should be plenty of resources out there. If anyone comes across any goldmines let me know.

There still is the fact that if you want you own graphic or logo your gonna have to get crafty (pun intend). So whether you paint it, stencil it, or whatever these letters to me only serve the purpose of getting you MPC little print back.

here another possible idea:

I'm not trying to convince anyone to get these screens thats your choice.
like i said I've done my homework on the subject, I've check into vinyl,
decal ,small printing companys ,and Imaging, they either don't know or
will charge arm and leg to print label back on after you've done your
paint job. Also ,know disrespect to the $20 do it yourself ,but you pay
for what you get. I should have some pics by Thursday or sooner. Some
will be impress, some will choose to do it the bootleg way, andways, info
is here for you or your service. 1
