MPC1000 Beat Making Book.

I have JJ OS 4.55 on my MPC. Would I benifit from the Beat Making on the MPC1000 book? I am at a complete stand still right now and YouTube tutorials are not helping me out too much and I don't know where else to seek any knowledge. I try to learn thing on my own but I am not doing too well. I won't give up but I want to learn more. If not the book, any other suggestions of step by step tutorials? Thanks.

Why/where are you at a standstill? Do you mean in terms of not being able to work the machine, or in terms of understanding and applying the basic concepts, or in terms of not being able to make a good beat?

I would say more of not understanding and applying basic concepts. I have watched a few tutorials on You Tube and was able to follow but I want to learn more.

The only way to really get the concepts is experience. Put the books and videos down, load up your CF or HDD with a bunch of samples, and get to work.

Reading or watching is helpful to a degree, but experience is the best way to make it all make sense to you. I'm not saying don't buy the book (others may offer feedback on it, I don't own it), I'm saying that hands on experience will probably be much more helpful at your current stage of development.

Kind of like how you can learn the technical procedure for chopping a sample by reading the manual or watching youtubes, but that doesn't mean you can chop a sample (or even pick the right sample to chop) and have it come out dope.

I agree with mp3 fully on experience being key....with that being said, the Beat Making Book does a great job of giving you the knowledge you need to know on how to get the most out of your mpc 1000 and also the best ways for workflow.

I've been an inspiring beat maker for the past 8 years and recently purchased my mpc 1000 about 3 months ago. Took the time to read the akai manual, jjos manual and also the entire beat making book and I can honestly say the book made me a better producer. LOTS of great insight. Gaining more knowledge on your hardware could never be a bad thing.

but agian that was just IMO....

Totally agreed put down the books.. while they help.

I only read up to chapter 10 on the owners manual... played with the MPC a ton before that and found out I learned most of that stuff on my own. There are little things you can benefit from the manual but the rest is on you to memorize and apply.

I have the beat tutorial book also but have not really looked at it.. due to time really.

I really appreciate your guys replies and advise. I will use it. Another question, how do I save the sample slices that I make? I can't figure it out. I am running JJ OS and I know most will tell me to look at the manual. I guess my real question is, is my MPC OS full JJ OS or is JJ a addition to AKAI OS? Does the MPC1000 factory manual apply?

Does that make any sense?

Mode->Pad 3 (Save mode). Go to your hard drive or CF, create a new folder, and save 'Entire Memory'.

Depends on what version of JJ OS you're running. The MPC will tell you when you start it up. JJ changed a lot of stuff, but not everything. The things he changed are document in his online manual. The things he didn't change, you will have to refer to the Akai manual.

It says 4.55. Someone on another thread, I think you, told me it is a old version.

I couldn't figure it out. I kept getting a "System Error" when trying to save a sliced sample. I tried to save entire memory as well and got the same error. Finally I tried doing new folder in entire memory and ended up saving a ton of stuff in a new folder except the sample I made. I **** it all up.

Don't know what to tell you homie. Update to 4.99L and see if that solves the problem.

Man I am going crazy! I downloaded 4.99 and it wont let me drag it to my MPC. It says Cannot copy. The directory or fie cannot be created. This sucks. Also, If I try to create a new folder in the MPC it says the same. WTF?

Im sorry for bugging with all this shit but I cant find help anywhere for this.

you dont need a folder.. just drag it to the CF card and load it up.

im running JJ OS 4.99 no issues.

That is what I tried first and got the error. Should I just wipe the whole unit clean? Do I even have that option?
