With finding records that nobody/not many people have/have listened to? Rare is a term I feel is thrown around too much. I hate the word 'rare'. So **** geeky. So many people say they look for rare records, but what the **** defines a rare record anyway? Is it rare because YOU don't see it often or is it rare because everyone tells you it's rare and you can't find it on ebay or on Gemm? Is anything rare these days or just expensive?
Some guys I know are like this. They have to find rare records that noone has heard before to make beats. They have fat pockets so they can aquire that sort of shit. If one well known producer has used the sample then they'll feel like a failure, dump the sample and start a new beat.
Is being obsessed with finding rare shit sometimes an excuse for a lack of skills?
Everytime I say rare I have images of comic book guy in my head...
