My sister just bought an MPC2000 (boot rom Ver 1.00) from some guy in the BayArea (California) for $250. She brought it to me to try and figure out. From reading the internet i have learned that it has an 8 out expansion, but no memory or OS UPGRADE that i can tell. She has a Pro-Tools(LE) studio set up running on G5 and MBox. I have a similar setup but with a Mac Pro & 002 mixer. This thing is kind of ancient and has no USB, hard drive I/O to put any sounds on it. The guy that sold it to her gave her 1 floppy disk and told her it was full of samples. when I finally figured out how to load and trigger sounds i found It had 1 sample on the whole disk. I have sense tried to look for floppies with sounds to no avail. I read about adding SCSI zips, CD-roms or Hard Drives to load sound but I don't know how to do this. Or if I need to upgrade the OS to do this. I would prefer using the HD, then I could just downLoad sounds from the internet if that is possible. I'm Lost. Can anyone help. Step By Step instructions, please!!!

For the SCSI zip, or anything SCSI for that matter, you need a SCSI cable. This is to attach the loading device into the SCSI port in the back, and then load off of the device. Also, you can see if it has RAM upgraded, or upgrade it yourself. The RAM will allow you to load from SCSI, floppy, or flatout sample from the input in the back onto the RAM, assign the samples, and play. With your sisters Mbox, she can record into the computer straight from the instrument. Look into the MPC 2000 forum for more help on it.

Start with downloading the manual and read it. It'll tell you most of what you want to know.

You'll also need the latest OS if you don't have it already (v. 1.72)*

This will allow you to load Wave files and use them in the machine.
Put the os on a floppy disk and use it to boot the mpc every time you use it.

You can look for Wave files on the web, they need to be 16bit 44.1k pcm wav to work in the mpc2000

But, it is a sampler you have so, read up on how to sample and make your own. You can start by connecting a CD player to the record ins on the mpc.

*btw boot rom version is not the OS version. Ignore it. Your OS is always kept on a floppy disk with this machine. You need the OS floppy every time you start the MPC
