FYI, the 'offkey' sound could be related to high resonance settings.
Raising the resonance is increasing how loud the frequency is at the cutoff point of the filter...that means that at really high resonances you will hear a tone that is dependent not as much on the content of the sample, but where you have the cutoff set.

Try it out, set res to 15 and start rotating the cutoff. You'll hear the tone.

So maybe the offkey stuff you were hearing was just the high resonance.

But yes the filter at 0 is probably going to kill much of the character of the sound....the off key stuff though sounds like resonance.

Good thread.

I did not know that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Alesis Micron..a competitor w/ the Microkorg. They're both good, but if I could go back I'd get the Korg make.

I want my MicroKorg! (Korg failed with MircoKorg XL; the sound might be good, but it looks unbelievably cheap and unattractive, even Casiotone looks much better than MircoKorg XL)

I just got a fretles bassguitar from a friend.. I'm gonna practice, and play my own basslines.. 8)
otherwise I usually create instrument programms out of single sampled bass notes from records..
Lotta good ideas in this thread

Even before you get good at bass, you can play individual notes... but play a whole scale, and then just chop em up. i've done like 2 takes on each note, one long, one kind of short and palm muted, then you can get pretty fancy on the mp with all that
