Do you guys know if it's possible to select the FULL LEVEL mode, but only use it for one pad on the JJOS?
I'm trying to play finger drums, but still have my 808 on full volume, so it always comes through nice and loud..

Like in this vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAO4D6Glk6s
Except you can't hear my 808 because I have to hit it with my ring finger, and it's tough to hit it really hard when i'm trying to hit the other pads softer..

Thank you!!

Thanks for the tip.. i've already got my velocity maxed out for my 808 and it's still too quiet..
ah well.. looks like i might have to just work up the muscles in my ring finger a little more..

If you use approximately the same pad layout each time you do finger drumming you can set different pad sensitivity settings for each pads. That's what I did combined with a DIY pad corx.

But now I'm waiting some money to get the 1K fat pads with corx inside.

i record all my drums with full level on as the rule!! the exception (which is rare) will be me turning it off. i hate having to bash the pads around.

if you set the pad velocity to 100 it will be the same volume as full level - soft hits will still give a full level sound
...the problem is not how hard your hitting the pad with your finger.

if this is still not loud enough the problem is to do with the sample volume or pad mixer volume ..or a combination of both.

I'm not trying to high jack the thread but I got the fatpads a couple of months ago for my 2500 and they're actually very nice. In my case they didn't do anything to increase or decrease sensitivity, I actually didn't even use the corks that came with the pads because when I tried the pads/corks would sit right on the sensors and when I hit the pads the sounds from different pads would sometimes be triggered (like it was way to sensitive). I tried to see if I could make it work with the corks but I kept having the same problem so I just took the corks out and the pads worked just fine without them. I really like the feel of having a thicker pad to hit, don't know why, I just do (more cushion for the pushin' I guess  ). The fat pads just feel more sturdy to me and more durable. So besides that, yeah it's probably more of a cosmetic thing.

there is scientific backing to this. the more soft, flexible material is between Fn (force of finger moving downwards against the pads) and the sensor (MPC1000 akai padfix FSR), the wider/better the velocity response.

one could messily create "fat pads" by taking the pads out of the MPC, inverting them while on some sort of stand, and letting silicone glue cure on the top part of the pad where your finger touches it. definitely not irreversible, but probably not a casual person's solution...MPC-stuff has a deservedly specific hustle, and their efforts should be supported by those who are interested. in my experience, MPC-stuff == excellent peoples.

ah this was the trick i was looking for!

too bad it's not available in the free version.. any other features the JJOS2xl has over what I was using previously? - the Akai 2.14 software...
I'm not sure if I can afford $123 for the one feature...

Thanks for the tip!

This is from Os1 , akai os has a similar screen on page 77 of the manual, the free os has this too.
Press window on the level field of a pad and it should appear.

I think you have to set vel>level to 0 to get the effect you want (os2 is the opposite way round)

My fat pads shipped Friday. MPC-Stuff is definitely doing some cool things. The pad corx I ordered last year really made a hell of a difference, so having them built into the fat pads is gonna make the 1k feel even MORE like an instrument than it already does.
Between buying another new guitar and the arrival of the fat pads, my fingers are very happy, as age (shut up... lol) and arthritis set in. :)

Got the fix for this.

Thanks everybody.. to anybody else that has this problem - you can easily set "lowest volume" settings for each pad in the JJOS..

I've been using the Akai version for two years without knowing about JJ!! D'oh!
