Totally new to the world of MPCs, messed around on a couple of mates ones and I thought it was high time to grab
one of my own. I live in Sydney, Australia so the prices here look about double of what you can get online, I've
put aside an MPC500 at my local DJ shop up the road to grab next week but its about $989.00 AU with 3 years warranty
included though the one's i've seen online start at around $500 US. Our dollar's pretty much equal I think...
Anyone think it's a good entry model for a beginner? Or should I hit up a MPC1000 straight away.
I wanna get one online if i can save luchini but still want a good warranty period. Cheers y'all.

get an mpc 1000 as long as it has the newer pads, and get it on ebay for around 500 U.S. and then download at least the free version of the JJ O.S. there are plenty of threads on this forum about it just dig a little and research, you'll find all the knowledge you need

Cheers man, much appreciated. eBay is looking like the cheapest option at this point.

1000 bucks for an mpc500 is insane and it dont matter where in the world you live.

you sometimes see 1000s going under 500 us dollars and still you'd have to dump an extra 500 bucks on there to price it at that mpc500 you saw. what will shipping be? 100 bucks? customs, maybe 100 bucks? still you saved 300 bucks to get the better machine.

This is the one im thinking of getting - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT

Is warranty something to be concerned about not having?

That's awesome man, was that through eBay? Did you get international warranty.

Warranty is worthless as they designed the machine to fail.

Research the pad upgrade...and I am NOT talking about cork or foil. The factory pad mechanism itself is flawed and you have to replace the entire pad sensor device with something completely different. Not sure how easy/hard those are to find now...they seem to come and go. Don't let that turn you off, because it can be found, but do consider it...you really need the new pads. Then it's a great machine.

Do your research....find out where you can get the pads from.

So it sounds like a second-hand model isn't a great idea? They don't seem to be that much cheaper anyway.
Im willing to spend closer to 1k. AKAI's website sells them too for 900US new, could be a good idea...

2nd hand is a great idea.

The point is, you are going to have to upgrade the pads.

You can either buy a new one, and know that it will have crappy pads, or you can buy a used one, which might already have the upgrade.

Yeah that is crazy expensive. I got a 2500 for $600 online. Shop around and find a deal. They are out there...

Yep, I think you should. It's way more powerful than a 500 and has some of the wits of a 4k.

props, didn't know that.

is there something in the description of these 'new' items that say which pads they include?
What about the 2500...is that the same crappy pads or has it been the working style (flat circuit board with sensors on it) from the beginning?

thanks.

mpc 1000, JJ OS, don't forget to use the individual outputs

you seem to have a disassembled MPC as your avatar, no surprise you recommend taking them apart :D

i got mine off ebay, never upgraded the pads, been using it for years. sometimes they double trigger, sometimes they miss, but never to the point where it has seriously annoyed me !

maybe i am uncultured, but i haven't really felt the need to take it apart and replace the pads. would rather do a new track with the time

The entirety of my experience with the MPC 1000 was my friend had one with the old pads, and if you hit it hard enough, it would reboot.

So yea, I helped him take that thing apart asap, and we put the new pads in. It has run great ever since.
