Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi,

Ok I've got the 500 wired up as slave to a Korg EMX-1 as master via MIDI, that's all good for start/stop/tempo sync..but I can't figure out if it's possible to change sequence numbers via MIDI. Doesn't appear to be in the MIDI implementation chart in the manual so maybe it's not possible. Or I'm being daft and I missed it. That is also quite likely.

Cheers,
LW.

I don't have my gear in front of me, but I'm pretty sure you can't change the sea via a midi command

Hi!

I´ve got ESX-1 as a slave and I do things the other way round, MPC can send program change which changes patterns on the ESX-1 accordingly. I´m not sure if that´s the case with EMX but should work since those two machine are quite alike with pattern/sequence handling. + u can sequence stuff on the mpc side of things which the ESX can´t do.
But for slaving pattern changes at least this works.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll have a play with that idea..I've been trying to keep the EMX as master but happy to experiment.

So basically in sequence mode, with a seq playing, you can queue up another seq on the MPC, and when that kicks it, it also changes the pattern on the ESX? If that's true, does "seq-1" on the 500 match to "pattern 1" on the ESX..just wondering how it knows what to do.

Cheers,
LW.

Hi,

Just to let you know I had a quick experiment.. using the MPC as master, yup I got it to sync song position with the EMX. Both MPC and EMX need to be in song mode. I can't it to work with EMX in pattern mode and MPC in SEQ mode, both have to be in song mode. I tried it with EMX as master, no joy. So, either way it's progress - thanks for the tip.

Cheers,
LW.
