Midi-Tard

Need some help - recently decided to mess around with cubase(finally) and am getting the hang of it and am able to track ok BUT, im having a problem which im hoping is simple to solve - heres my setup

Midi Interface>mpc 3000 midi in 1
M Audio Keystation>mpc 3000 midi in 2
mpc 3000 Midi Out A>Midi Interface

As I said i figured out how to track out my beats in cubase on tracks just fine, but whats messing with me is that when i create a vst track in cubase, my midi keyboard is triggering sounds from my MP+the VST sounds - How do i get just the VST sounds - Anyone?

change the midi channel to something else other then the internal sounds and change it to that on cubase too?

it sounds like the VST and the internal mpc 3000 sounds are all on the same channel.
