SERIOUSLY? :?

Yeah I dont know all the technical terms when it comes to music, I just know how to drum out on the pads...Sorry bro. LOL

Dont apologize though, you dont need to know it in order to make music, just as you dont need to know what the keys are called in order to become great at playing them.. I find it odd when people look down on or ridicule others for not knowing something that has more to do with communicating about music than actually making it.. It can be very useful of course, but not necessary.. There are and always will be great selftaught music makers out there.. To look down at them for having their own language when it comes to making music is beyond silly. Something that is relevant to one person doesnt automatically make it relevant to everyone else.

We're not just getting down on him, but YUMYUM claims to have owned most MPCs. been sampling for a while now, yet comes out with some HUGE noob comments which sometimes leave me astounded. He seems like a cool guy though so we let him off

Thanks bro, I appreciate that, Yeah Im not all technical when it comes to music, Im just more of a creator, I just roll with the flow, I make music based off of emotion rather than knowing what Im playing, if that certain key or riff or note touches my soul, then thats what I go with. but good looks on that input bro, thats the realest thing Ive ever read on this forum

LMAO, Bucks, I am not a beginner, Ive been making music for a long time now, I just didnt know what I was getting myself into when I bought the 4000, to be honest, Im quite scared of it, not really, I just dont want to learn everything on it just yet, I just like to confirm the basic questions that I ask myself by coming on this forum...and yes I have owned the MPC 2500, MPC 3000, MPC 5000, and now the 4000...if you look in the 3000 forum under Post Your Setup, and the 5000 post your setup, youll see I had 2 MPC's at once, now, I had both those MPC's chained off each other 3000 and 5000...

Each MPC is different, what you might know how to do on the 2500 doesnt apply for the 5000...what you might know how to do on the 3000, 2500, 5000 or 2000xl for that matter doesnt apply to the 4000 at all...I just ask Noob Questions because I run into problems and sometimes I get confused, this is my only resource when it comes to MPC's I dont know anyone within a 100 mile radius with a MPC that can relate or that I can ask a question to about the MPC.

I know I havent even begun to scratch the surface when it comes to the 4000, hell I dont even know how to use my Motif XS6 to its full potential, Im just a beginner when it comes to making music but Im no amateur, check my soundcloud and you will see what song was made with what MPC

Soundcloud.com/Mach1Entertainment

Bucks, I advise you to listen to my beats and see what I mean and come to your own conclusion as to who I am as a person and a Producer, I dont make music for it to be tight or the best beat or whatever, Ive heard alot of cats on here beats and they aint doing nothing new under the sun. But yet they know so much about this machine but dont even have the sounds to back it up. If these cats know so much about the MPC 4000 or whatever MPC, why arent they famous? Now answer that

Dude, you offered a mastering service but a few tracks you've posted up here sounded terrible. Some of your compositions are fat but not my cup of tea.
I don't wanna be seen as just ragging on you but you hit this forum a while ago and you annoyed quite a few people and NOOBED it up for the first few weeks. The whole picture of what you say, you can do, the gear you own and your experience just doesn't all fit together.

Sounds like hating to me...I didnt noob up, I was me the whole time, my original account got hacked....I told everybody who I was, but who cares if I annoy anyone...if I have a question about something I should be able to come on this forum and ask it, you ask questions too, but where are you in the rap game? I dont see you doing anything...Just because I might have owned more then 1 MPC I never even tried on them, hell Im not even trying on the 4000, I dont want to wear my shit out, I want my shit to always be new, so who cares if I havent delved into the features of the MPC, thats on me, but if I have a question I shouldnt have to get knocked for it, Thats just where Im at in the MPC, you guys know all this shit, but none of you are famous, none of you have tight beats, none of you have websites, none of you have production credits on anything, so who are you to tell me that all my stuff doesnt fit together, the proof is in the pudding and the truth is, youre jealous...

if we are all just jealous "do nothings", then why are you trying so hard to get the information we have?

Why do you put so many beats on your soundcloud?
learning to self edit is tantamount to becoming a great artist

PS you music is very sophomoric.

@yumyum.. a little humility never hurt anyone.. people doesnt have to be masters of anything to be able to teach you.. and likewise, someone that is very very good at something, can still learn from a complete newbie.. and this is because there no single person on earth that can possibly know everything, and therefore, no matter how much you know, you can still find more things to learn just by changing the angle of which you look at things.. and things are connected in far more ways that what people normally might think, and this means that you can learn things that would apply on the mpc, from something that you would think of as completely irrelevant.. a book, a painting, nature, a life situation.. so someone that would be considred to be very wise from a long life and having a lot of experience, could still find answers and discovering new things just from ideas coming from a litle kid. all about being as open minded as you possibly can, and try to draw experience out of everything i guess..

if someone search the truth, he can not allow a big ego as it will always cloud the answers somehow.. and humility will take you on a longer trip and let you see more things than what you would see if you only allowed the ego to hold the wheel.

if you are like me when it comes to learning, then you have not much use of manuals until you really get stuck, you just do things that feels right.. and i think it is perfectly ok to ask on a forum, and i think no one should question that method or why, as there can be many perfectly fine reasons to do so, and i think if people cant allow themselves to be helpful just because they dont agree with a certain method.. then i think it looks a bit small minded personally, and it also seems a bit selfish, which really is perfectly fine too really.. but by helping someone you may have a even bigger impact than by refusing to help.. however, if you really want to find out something, then you can aswell just put in time and find answers to your questions too, by searching or checking the manual.. thats just for general stuff though and doesnt really apply to conversation about different peoples methods

humility and being helpful is a good thing and it helps pushing things forward as a whole.. for example, i made some sample packs years ago containing my beats and some other stuff.. someone used those beats and got signed, tracks cut to vinyl and whatnot.. and even though one part of me says "it should have been me getting that release" i am also glad that i was part of something even if i never got any credit for it... but these kind of things allows someone to help inspiration and creativity even though you are not directly involved.

i totally understand why someone might not want to help or share secrets.. i get that too, but i think it is more based on fear of being made worthless because someone else manages to get what you have, your secret recipe, your methods..... so in a way it would threaten your personal "art" if you will.. (but imo, you should try to avoid depending on something that someone else can learn anyway if it are the type of things that you can learn easily just from reading, its different when it comes to the type of fingertip feeling that makes up a skill, it can only be learnt from practice, and thats just because people work differentlky and simply explaining does not work..and those are usually the things that allows you to be good even if you swap methods or gear.)

but if someones asks me direcly how i did this or that, then i will reply, because i think that ultimately, i have more to gain from doing so, than to look at myself as if what i know or the skills i have are only valuable if only i have them.. this way of looking at things can hinder you in your progress i think, compared to if you were to treat it all as being expendable.. try to be a teacher, but a teacher that does not know everything and that can see there is an infinite amount of knowledge to be found if you only had the time and patience too look at thinsg from every possible angle.. even if you studied and used the mpc for a hundred years you would still not be able to see it all and therefore also not be able to do it all.

i love working on the mpc, i know that i am good at certain things and not good at other things, but knowing that i am good will not make me think that i could not learn from someone that might never even have touched an mpc before

have no idea whay i am saying all this but feels a bit relevant in this thread

that's the realest post i've ever read. that sounds like something i imagine jimi hendrix or jay dilla would say. they spoke through you on that one. out of all of the boards i've ever been on, and all the time i've spent scouring them for information, tips, tricks, and angles...

that's the realest stuff i've ever read from a poster. that's true knowledge right there. that's for newbies, and folks that are well into what it is they do. that's honesty and a true purity in what it is to be passionate and love what it is that you do.

thats wisdom. you should repost that, and sticky that. that's a big ego check, for both sides of the spectrum, and everything in between.

and as a side note, i live in the inland empire, and i want to get an mpc. i feel like once i complete an album with my first tool (fruity loops) then i'll be able to progress into the mpc. like i finally earned it. my black belt as you will, or better yet, my white belt?

i was thinking that too

and as for the getting an mpc... dont switch, incorporate.

Well acton speak louder than words. DJs mix, scratch and sample by beats so if you are thinking of a spot to sample on the record it is good to learn measures by counting the quarter notes. This gives me a rough estimate of tempo, length of the phrase, and a stutter effect. The goal of this is to get the same effect on the sequencer as we would with turntables, mixers, and a multitrack recorder.
