Playing Chops from Keyboard

I finally hooked up my keyboard to my 4000 to play my chops, but it's a lot quieter than playing them from the MPC's pads.....why? That sucks, I really want to be able to use this function.

Roland Alpha Juno 1 is what i'm using to do this. I doubt that matters, but that's what model it is I'm using.

My guess: velocity curve or sensitivity. I dont know the Juno or the 4000 but in case of the 4000 you can simply try to check whats happen when you use the full level mode. If this gets you the same volume than the pads then you can try to find a way to lower the sensitivity of the velocity in the 4000 (or the Juno).

Ahh, I didn't think of using the full level button. Thanks, I'll try and report the results.

You can go into program matrix and make sure velocity is set instead of tilt velocity. The settings should be source velocity and amplitude the destination. Set the depth to taste. Plus you can press on the sample settings I can't remember and set to linear, exponent or something check it out in the reference manual.

When I play chops back on my Yamaha Motif XS the sound is loud, I dont know why your volume is low...that doesnt make sense, the velocity should be set with the keyboard by turning it all the way up I think...or maybe it is the full level button, I have no idea.

It helps to experiment to the fullest instead of just scratching the surface of things, run into a minor problem, then hit these boards with elementary questions.

Most of us understand the full implementations of how midi works and the results you usually get from using it.

Stay busy in that lab if you want to learn something.

It's not really the same. I trouble shooted and actually did have all volume levels up both on the mp and my keyboard. I doubled checked next time to make sure the 'full level' function was on, too. However, nothing....I think I'm going to give Haze' suggestion a try because that's a little deeper than surface scratching I think. YumYum, you stay asking a ridiculous question. Not only are they spoonfed, you need a motherf*ckn bib with all the mess you got going on. Especially since supposedly you've been had several MPCs. And I posted AFTER I researched my question and still couldn't come up with a solution.

Dab, I'm not talking about midi. I got everything set up correctly. The signal strength is like weak for some reason. I haven't really messed w/ it again since, last time I made a beat, I just used the pads cuz sometimes I'd rather make a beat the way I know how than to try something new.

I cant call it, but you know what youre right bro, I just ask the ridiculous questions because I like to be ridiculous...F it...But damn that sucks that you cant get that joint to work, I wish I could help you maybe its the keyboard because its not a workstation, I dont know...

I have the same exact problem on my Korg MS2000. I changed the velocity curve on the ms2k and the 4k and it helped a little bit, but I gotta bang on the ms2k to get any descent levels out of my 4k. Did you ever fix this issue, if so what did you do, this frustrates me, but I deal with it.

Learning on the job is key with this game.

just fixed mine....turns out it WAS the ms2000 not the 4k that needed change, changed the velocity to constant and set the variable to 127(highest). The 4000 is so dope.

Make sure your keyboard is on Post KBD and not pre TG, should do the trick man!
