You can make a drum loop if you want, but the goal is more to build a dope drum kit like few good snares, kicks and hats.

No,I didn't cut the sounds intentionnaly short, for most of them it's because there is another sound after so I had to cut before the other sound begins.
I don't know why I left silence, I think it's because I recorded straight from the MPC to my DAW and didn't cut the silence at the end, but I think everybody can remove it as they like?

the samples are dope, no doubt. i have optimized them for my own use. i won´t upload them because i am a dick and you will only learn by doing it yourself

here are some basics:

-sample your kicks, hats, snares in mono!
-use a low cut (eq) to get rid of the low end on the hats (same applies for cymbals, etc.)
-use an eq to get rid of the high end (e.g. hihat) on the kicks
-use an eq to shape your sounds (boost the highs on dull hats, boost the lows on weak kicks, etc.)

Fair enough. You could've saved yourself some trouble by just exporting the sounds from your MPC, though...

Anyway, I think part of your problem might be picking the right sounds, not processing them. Making a short open hi hat from a busy break at 120 BPM work on e.g. a mid-tempo hip hop beat may not always be worth the hassle. And It's always easier to work with a drum hit with some air after it than something you have to "cut short" because it overlaps with the next sound in the break.

Yes, I know that but those kind of drum hits are hard to find... I try to sample every open drum on all the records I have, but it's not that often that I come across drums with some air, especially for the hats.

In my opinion you need to stop sampling vinyl to the mpc and change your samples. Do it to your computer:). My advice is that you need to find a really good vinyl with out scratched. http://www.sendspace.com/file/dpfeyg that is the sample which was only eq recorded from vinyl to computer and so so warm

I think it's a neat idea and you seem sincere about it, so whatevs. I D/L'd the files, listened to a few - they seem good. If I get some time in the next lil bit I'll mess around w/ them and upload em and tell you what I did.

Donno if it would really help tho - yr getting great tips in some o the posts above.
