[Need Help] Phones on Yamaha MG166CX

I want to pre-listen to my beats on my phones .. Since over a year I'm pre-listening via my KRK Rokits which are plugged in into the Stereo Out ... But I also want to do some beats at night and when I'm connecting my Phones to the Phones-In I hear everything ... BUT: Every channel is maxed out in volume, the gain control (faders) on each channel is neglected so I can't work with it ... I activated "Pre" and "PFL" on each channel ... If I deactivate "PFL" I don't hear anything, cause it's for pre-listening and if I deactive Pre with PFL on or off nothing happens ...
What should I do so everything is monitored like on my krks ?

Oh and I forgot: I read the manual but it doesn't say anything about this problem ...

Why can't you plug headphones into the MPC for night work?

Obvious suggestion, is the monitor level turned up?

It looks like it's labelled 'stereo' which would make me thing that the signal being sent to the headphones (not PFL) would be the main stereo mix.

You need to make sure the button is selected on STEREO and that the volume is up.

@ clint246clint: Cause I work with MPC Filters, but also with the gain, filters and effects of my mixer for each channel ....

@ nogginj: The Monitor knob doesn't change anything on the maxed out volume of each channel ... When I disabled "PFL" the specific channel is muted for my headphones, the Stereo Out still works but there are my KRKs plugged in ^^
The "Monitor/Phones" knob doesn't make also a change to the sound and it's selected on "Stereo" ... When I pushed it down to "Group" the sound is also muted ... I don't know what I should do it's **** up and I tried nearly everything to get it work ... =/

I discovered in the manual that the Stereo Out ISN'T the signal of the USB-OUT ... Man what for a **** system ...

So what is the USB-OUT made up of then? Is it selectable on the mixer or in software or anything?

data transfer only, its used to treat the mp as a massive storage unit..

The manual says "The PHONES jack outputs the same signal as the MONITOR OUT jacks", so set up your mixer appropriately for that.
Turn off your speakers.
Make sure PFL is OFF for each channel.
Make sure STEREO/GROUP switch (in MONITOR/PHONES section) is depressed in the stereo position.
Make sure all your channels are routed to the stereo bus.
Adjust MONITOR/PHONES knob.

? Just workin from what I see.
Maybe yamaha is weirder than that

But the problem is, that the Stereo Out brings that signal that I also record on my computer ^^ And the Monitor Out ignores the Effects and particular faders ... I don't but I hate this all .. Why they can't create ONE signal for ONE mixer ... -.-
Now I made the mistake and bought a 2 x 6,3 mm -> 1 x 6,3 mm adapter ... But I can't hear something through my headphones cause it's female I think ... ^^ Argh I hate this ...

Ok, so if you are plugging your yamaha into the computer to record, and you want to hear the output, which is what the computer is recording, have you considered monitoring the computer?

If you use headphones on the computer, you will hear the exact same thing as what is coming into the computer.

However, are you sure you followed jimmie's advice clearly?

*EDIT* glad you got it sorted out. The above technique would work as well. Also, try reading your manual a little better, this is very clearly explained in the section called 'Adjusting level'.

ps. "The USB connector outputs the same signal as the REC OUT jacks." - which I imagine/hope is a unity gain version of the stereo out.
pps. YEP "The mixer’s STEREO OUT Master fader has no affect on the signal output via these jacks (REC OUT)"

Do you think the REC OUT is better in quality as the STEREO OUT and USB ?

A lot of times, the 'REC OUT' is set at unity gain, so you cannot adjust the volume on it like on the master mix. The idea being, you can use the volume knobs to adjust how the speakers sound, without affecting how the recording is being made (it would sound bad if your recording has the volume levels always fluctuating because say, the wind is blowing the wrong way).

However, some REC OUTs are just the exact same as the main outs.

I don't think it will be any better/worse quality, no.
