Obviously you need a cheap but decent A/D converter with Coax output, right? Some home theatre amplifier/receiver/motherships have digital in/outputs. Just a thought...

Think about it....after going through numerous stages of buying a bunch of sh!t, one could spare a little patience and save some dough and grab a few quality products that'll last for years to come.

I say this based on my own experiences. Now I understand why sh!tty products are made in the first place.

Portable digital recorders are the way to go.

The tune I did for the last Mixtape was all tracked out into my Olympus recorder at 24bit, because I was having a few issues with my PC soundcard at the time.

actually what people really should do, is to not buy into any of this either and instead think of what they themselves need.. following these type of tips can be as misleading as eating up all the hype about the latest hardware or software.

if you need reason to be integrated with your hardware or whatever, fine then that is what you need.. if you have problem focusing on the music because of it, then fine, find another solution..

but it is utterly pointless trying to say that either is the right way.. because there is no right way, only different ways.. there are going to be people that tries to follow one or another way because it sounds like it makes sense, but it is not necessarily a way that is best suited to the individual that tries it.. and that is when you have wasted time. best you can ever do is to get personal experience, and only then can you say if something works for you or not, and only really be able to say that it works for you, not anyone else.

This is a good thread. It's true that you don't need to have the latest and greatest piece of gear to make great music, but I think everybody comes down with a bad case of gear lust every once in a while.
