Seems i wont be buying Macbook pro, new soundcard and Logic.. It would be too expensive for me...

My PC is 2 years old.
Intel core 2 quad cpu 2.40 Ghz'
4 Gb Ram
I think i should be good with that, so i thought why not just buy Cubase 6 or Pro Tools...

Currently using Acid pro but is poor on effects in my oppinion..

What are your oppinions on these two DAWs and what should i go for?

Both platforms require/suggest that you use WINDOWS 7. I personally think it's a matter of preference between these two, but I'd probably start with PT 9. But then again, I've been a steinberg user for most of my life and I'd probably go with cubase for starters.

I've posted the links to both systems so that you can get a feel for what's needed.

With these 'which DAW' type threads you only ever get biased opinions... so I'm not gonna buck the trend! Cubase 6 all day every day!!

Audio editing is up there with the best of them, if not better, but midi editing is where Cubase is ahead of the pack. You can now have multiple midi controller lanes on a 'per note' basis... not per track... EACH NOTE! Its implementation is very slick too.

Other than that, I wouldn't buy any DAW on the basis of included effects. Cubase effects are now pretty useable though - quality reverb, guitar distortion and eq's etc.

If you can coax someone into getting you the educational discount you can get it for less than half the price, and it's the full version.

You're also in Europe so there's way more Cubase users here, so don't listen to any "industry standard" shite that PT users like to claim. It's bogus.

Ive been runnin Windows 7 for a long time now so that wont be any problem.

Cubase is actually on my 1 list but im alittle bit unsure.. i got a deal on a used Cubase 6 that is used for 2-3 months.
Im not really sure if i should buy the used one for the half of the price, and count on that it will work. ( cause there is actually no guarantee that it works or that i should just buy a 100% new one.
Last time i looked at Cubase i didnt like that i couldnt zoom in by scrolling the scroll on the mouse and i defenetly didnt like that when i zoomed inn the waveform was pretty square'ish and not wave'ish so it was hard for me too find out f.ex the start of a sample. ( If you know what i mean )
BTW dont you register through USB or something?

As with anything new, you're gonna see things that don't look familiar to you. I'd take the fact that I could do an array of functions/things over gimmicks anyday.

More than likely that squarish view you're speaking of is no more than a window that opens within the program to display the wave info for editing purposes.

If all you intend to do is work with wave info, then anything out here could probably win you over with whatever gimmicks that's packed within it.

I'm not trying to bash you, just trying to point out the fact that you should look beyond surface features and really take a good look within at what the program has to offer. One feature I like that I don't know if other programs offer this is the "history" option.

In steinberg daws you can go back to whenever even after saving to undo something that didn't quite fit your plans.

But in the end, you have to learn & understand what differentiates these daws to make them standout from the rest of the crowd.

These daws are structered to fit an individuals skill set/level. You as a user have to decide which one will fit your needs.

You should consider the Steinberg CC121 controller to go with it if you can find the cash. I love having a separate transport control, but it's also got a full channel strip with motorised fader. Key commands, while useful, don't come anywhere near offering that level of integration.

Pro tools user since '03. Wont be switching anytime soon. Main reason is because I know the program in and out, but also...I do a lot of mixing for other studios. If you want compatibility with bigger studios and if you plan on doing work with others outside of your studio, keep this in consideration.

That's the first gen of mackies universal control. They've discontinued it now.

If you specifically want that one, then you probably know where you have to go to get it.

I saw a couple of these on ebay going for between a lil over $350 - $400. New is still around a grand.
