Cassette is a recording medium like anything 2" tape reel, VCR, Betamax, ADAT, Computer hard drive. Ususally it's the last step after making the beat in an MPc or the like. I know you can make physical tape loops and layer sounds using overdubbing but some sort of sampler even a casio SK is pretty much required to punch out sounds even if you're doing it direct to tape. If there's a tape only approach I don't know of it.

You have to track some beat through(radio ectect)and pause--record--pause--record ectect.Sounds great actually.A lot of us tape generation were the early sample/sequencing pioneers lol.....edit-it helps to have at least 2 decks...anywayz,its a great thing to do and sample you (analog) creations....

i dont disagree with your orig post. but you all actin like you had some kind of revelation. "its not what you have its how you use it....blah blah blah blah" no shit! that aint news.

ima do what the **** i want and make bangers! cause i dont give a ****! if youre into gear, there is nothing wrong with that. if youre a pussy and hide behind gear and use it to prove that you're good or make yourself feel better for sucking, then go **** yourself.......you can do wtf you want as long as you cool about it. if dude can afford tons of vintage synths and is into it, fine, no problem with that. as soon as you start being elitist and a dick about it, then you can go eat a dick.

one dont be a pussy
two use common sense
three actually make bangers
four use wtf you want to accomplish the above

shit, forgot to answer this........

its nice man. im living like a king. Most americans are rich here cause the cost of living is so low. i know college educated chinese folks getting paid 2000 Yuan a month. thats about 300 USD. put that into perspective.......im a web developer gettin paid american dollars. im like **** bill gates over here.

but we trying to be humble about it all. were living in a small place. we do have a nanny. she cooks 3 square, cleans, takes care of my kids, does food shopping, and works 12 hour days, 6 days a week for 300 USD a month. but the thing is, if i was back in the states, i'd have to pay for day care, which is actually more expensive (200 USD a week for a ghetto place).

so even though i have a nanny, its not like its more money, and were not trying to take advantage of the shit. we are definately blessed. we dont make the nanny work full hours and we give here american week, 2 days off. we are also teaching her daughter english. plus our kids love her.

its just how shit is here. thats why everything at walmart is made in china, its cheap. americans benefit from it.

anyways, our nanny said we have been the best employers ever. she is like 40, im fuggin 28. we are cool, our kids are more behaved than chinese kids. we might try to bring her back to america. we've been to her house, its an apartment 8th floor, no elevator, 1 room for 3 people (quality wise, its way more ghetto than anything in USA - saftey wise(guns, murder, theft) its 100% safe). community bathroom and kitchen. she keeps her place nice, but the average american would call it a stank hole or ghetto. our closets are bigger than the joint. and thats normal city living.

but life is nice. I eat 100% healthier, thats the biggest thing. the food here is great. Its not what you think of as c hinese food and your taste buds have to adjust, especially if you are use to eating american junk food. but i crave veggies now.

the hardest thing is the language barrier. chinese language is pain in the ass. but slowly getting it. internet herre sucks tho. i have to be on a vpn to post to this forum. so its slower. and the overall connection, even without vpn is slow. its cause they censor and monitor everything.

but overall, its nice. i cant complain and i will definately miss it if we have to leave. there are some thing i miss in the states, but can do without.

we walk like 200% more. we dont own a car so we take public transporation everywhere, and walk everywhere, so i get way more excersize. also every block is like a mini city. i mean, you can get lost in 1 **** block. its nutz.

i would say if any of you have a chance to live here, do it. it is worth the experience. you can find a job easy as english teacher. if you can keep your american or UK job and live here, its even better.........

any questions just ask.

peace.

I havent discovered a real hiphop scene yet. I know there is s omething out there. but i havent gotten off my ass to check much out recently. been in my make shift studio crankin away at my album.

but from what ive experienced..........chinese people crave hiphop, but are completely clueless to real hiphop, or clueless to even 1% of knowledge anyone on this forum has about hiphop. they just arent exposed to it as much as americans, or other foreigners are. i mean, not everyone, the privleged might be, and people really into it might be. but overall, its not like it is in the USA. the average kid here dont got ipods.

so this is a good and bad thing. i mean, i'd kill it as a dj just by playing top 10 from the most recent years. even if i played some 2000 - 2004 non chart topping hiphop, chances are no ones heard the shit and i'd kill it!

people just never hear the shit. and only some things make it over here. so like justin bieber is popular. I frequently hear songs like ludacris move out the way, black eyed peas my hump. and shit like that. real mainstream stuff, and the really popular stuff or stuff in movies and old club type shit.

i think there is a real opportunity to expose people to hiphop. I mean, you cant blame people here for listening to justin bieber or little wayne. as lame as they are, its what they get exposed too.

Thanks for pointing that out, that detail has been bugging me too. Another fact is that 4 tracks share that width on regular cassette decks, not 2 as was implied earlier. Avid cassette user myself, recording as well as releasing.

i have a cassette recorder,, apparently made in the 70's. it has RCA ins and outs

what i've been doing (dont know if this is a dumb way of doing it or not, but its what i do) is my final mix is in my SP303. I then record the final mix from my SP303 into the cassette player. Then i re-record the tape BACK into my MPC and drag/drop it onto my computer.

on the point of gear. I think its okay to buy as much gear as you can afford, but i would say you would be better off learning each piece of gear and how to use each piece as best as you can before you go buying a bunch of new stuff, vintage or not.
