Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I called musiciansfriend and they said that their system was showing that the MPC4000 has been discontinued. They said they only have the Studio A and LE versions left. Does anybody know what the deal is on this? Thanks in advance.

My Assumption would be that it's discontinued from Musiciansfriends' lists.. not from Akai...

Could be wrong, but I doubt that Akai will discontinue selling the MPC 4000 until they
make the MPC 4500 or MPC 5000 or which ever will be next. Doesn't make sense
to stop recieving money until they have a replacement.

Also, Sean W of Akai has indicated that their are Several more planned OS updates
for the MPC 4000, so I would doubt that they would put their R & D efforts towards
a discontinued line.

I've only been an MPC 4000 owner until recently, but I've been on this Forum for a while,
so I could do my research on the product, and I've seen a Has Akai discontinued the MPC 4000 thread several times on this. At some point they will discontinue it, but from a business perspective, I would doubt that they would do this, until they have something else to replace the money coming in for it, as well as they most likely wouldn't be putting their Engineering
efforts toward it via new OS's. I don't think that theirs been any S-5000/S-6000 updates
since the Z4/Z8 came out. I know that my S-950 hasn't recieved any updates for AGES. :)

I noticed some retailers stopped carrying the MPC4000 for a minute a while ago. Also, the LE version was the one that was discontinues awhile ago. It was replaced by the standard version that has the CD drive and the extra ram. Don't let the monkeys at the store confuse you.

I think it all boils down to them having a problem with there distibution that I been hearing about ever since it came out . one month a store stocks it the next month they don't a few months later they stock it again .

At one point last year, I heard that AKAI was going out of business, then that they weren't making anymore MPC's and stuff like that. ITs hard to believe anything these days.

OK here is a little more inside info back from my Akai days pertaining to LE models. AMIC tried to sell the LE models in an attempt to boost sales. GC amd Musicians Friend both ordered 20 models. A month later Musicians Friend returned them due to lack of sales of LE models. Nobody wanted units without drives. AMIC stopped shipping them out shortly after. Discontinued.

If AP USA (VST) continued with LE models, I do not know. I don't see why they would.

Another thing is the white MPC 4000 models are discontinued, but the MPC 4000 Blue model is barely making there arrival.
