EB-16 Filter problem/question!!! help!

Hi! I've noticed some time ago that eb-16's filter is turning sound to mono You can notice it if You do something like this:

1) when STEREO sample loaded and assigned to pad go to mixer and turn level in stereo section to 0

2) next in FXsend section turn level to 100 and assign for example to M1

3) after that in FXedit turn OFF reverb and turn ON only FILTER

NOW You can hear stereo sample playing in MONO... If that is something wrong with my EB-16, or everyone of You has the same issue? I've wrote about filter, but it is the same on all effects. Please some feedback, I'm getting frustrated

I dont have that mpc set up at the moment... maybe somebody else could check theirs... in a couple of weeks I will take a look.


My guess is the effects are mono... many fx are.

But Reverb effect simulates stereo if turned on so eb-16 can send to outputs stereo signal i think, so why filter sends to reverb mono signal?

I dont know, I never noticed that before because I usually used the fx on mono sounds (drums etc) and the sounds that were usually in stereo were longer samples that I didn't really run through the eb16 because besides the filter I found the eb16 kinda not that good sounding.

Yes I tried it and couldn't get a stereo signal out of it. I wonder how many people sampled stereo and used the EB16 without noticing that their samples are mono now

Can you tell, is it mixing the left and right channel, or only using one channel and discarding the other?

Maybe try a sample with white noise in the left channel and a tone or something in the other.

I've already tried it and it's mixing left and right of course. For me it is totally fckn stupid to make a device where they even in manual reflect using other samples than only drums which can be stereo and someone may want to process them in stereo too... Otherwise drums, especially sampled drums can be stereo too, if they designed MPC for drums only.

This kind of routing wasn't unusual back in the days. Some FX units were true stereo or had 2 FX engines that could be linked to a stereo pair but many had just mono inputs. The reason is easy: no stereo source. A guitar is mono. a voice is mono. Drums (each mic) is mono. In case of a MPC build in 1997 thats sad but...it had to be affordable for the people and at this time many people still worked with hardware FX. FX in the MPC was luxury.

I understand that, but if we use EB for "pre-process" in MPC and we want to process signal in further production by another fx unit or something, we have degraded signal to mono and our creativity is limited now...

so sample the left and right separately and run them through separately.

i transfer raw samples (about 30 sec cuts from songs) from PC to mpc via zip and cut them in mpc into small pieces, so separating every single slice to L and R is totally without sense... (for apply simple highpass filter)

yeah, but your only other option is to get an external effect module. there is no work around for making a mono effect into a stereo effect... you have to do it the hard way if you want it to be done on the eb16....

either way, I suggest getting an external effect because it adds to the setup anyways. maybe look into the kaoss pad series.
